Discussion activities
Comment one:
Over the years there has been a rapid change of lifestyle activities associated with the nutritional status of individuals. This has been a consequence of industrialization, globalization as well as urbanization. The nutritional status of the population is a multidimensional aspect. The article postulates that the changes in the diets of many people across the world are due to the diversified sources of foods. It is true that nutritional status resulting from dietary adjustments have significantly contributed to the changes in the prevalence of chronic diseases across the world. In support of the proposed solution to prevention of chronic diseases in the article good nutrition is pertinent. Individuals are expected to balance the number of calories consumed with the calories burnt by the body. This is the key element in body weight management. Moreover, the gradual decline of physical activities by the population influences the body metabolic rate. It is right to propose a shift in the conceptual framework to articulate the nutritional challenges facing different population in relation to chronic diseases.
Comment two:
The need for a holistic chronic disease prevention program that is sufficiently funded exists in all regions. The participation of the public in developing policies and strategies is key in ensuring success of the program. In line with the suggestions to help communities in developing self-managed programs through capacity building I support the provision of technical assistance. The diversity of the public health workforce should be robust enough to articulate challenges associated with different chronic diseases. Moreover, extensive research on the plausible solutions to different chronic diseases should be encouraged across different geographical locations. Actualization of research recommendations with the affected communities should also be a priority.
