Not only in this century, but there was always poverty and as a result, inequality. The difference is that the percentage of those people, who live now below the poverty line increased dramatically in comparison to the early 20th century. Consequently, a number of unsatisfied people rose and the distance between rich and poor people became huge. The United States of America is a good example, as one can meet here a person, who has everything and at the same time a person, who has nothing.
More than 46 million people, that is 15 per cent of the total country population, in the US do not have enough money or even worse do not have place to live. There are a lot of reasons for such situation. One of them is the world crisis in 2008, which led to increasing of the unemployment rate and declining the rate of annual wages. Another reason is the growth of the inflation, cost of living, and unstable situation in the labor market.
Low cultural level also causes poverty due to the fact that it is very difficult to become a highly qualified specialist coming from poor family. Thus, it is like a vicious circle, when these two elements are linked and impact on each other.
However, there are some ways, which can be accepted to decline the poverty and make the inequality less. One possible way to improve the situation is to increase taxes for rich people and decrease them for poorer ones. As a result there is not a gap in the federal budget, rich citizens would stay rich and poor ones would feel themselves gently richer. Probable this little additional sum can save someone’s life or at least he/she has money for normal meal.
No doubt, military power is very essential for country especially in international arena for having an opportunity to defend its interests and, in general, the seriousness of the country intentions. But, there is a well-known fact that the USA is the most powerful among all countries in all spheres and if the military budget of 700 million dollars is being slightly declined in favor of poor people, nothing wrong would be happen with the international status of the state.
For sure, one of the approaches to downsize the poverty and inequality is to help unemployment people, as the majority of poor have this status, find a job. People being unemployed for a long time lose their belief in getting a job in the nearest future and start depending on the state totally. At this moment the state should concentrate its attention to these people and not to lose their wish to work and their belief in themselves. That is why many energy and time have to be spent in order to concede even a possibility for a person lost his/her job to go to the dogs.
