Line-Up of Shows
Unlike before, TV program has been dominated by television series, sitcoms, talk shows, and reality shows. Most of these TV programs mostly appeals to individuals in a mature age. This has been the latest demand of most people, consider Game of Thrones, How to Get Away with Murder, The Walking Dead, and more. These series aren’t actually for little children simply because of their content and visual attributes. Many critics have been wondering that there has been several TV series and programs being aired one after another making the world of television too cluttered. In CBS, there has been a specific day every week wherein the channel airs NCIS: New Orleans followed by NCIS. This is considered as block programming. Major broadcast networks these days base their decision in finalizing their TV program schedules according to the interest of people towards certain TV programs. There are even replays during the weekends for these TV programs for the viewers to watch it or watch it once again.
Downfall of Children Shows?
In the early years, children TV shows ruled television with Scooby-Doo, Garfield, The Flintstones, and more. These are tall legit TV shows that are sure going to appeal to little kids with their witty genre and playful production. These days we have the Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burger, and other cartoons. However, these selections of cartoons are more mature and way too complicated for little kids to comprehend. Yes they might trace the idea of the cartoons but it is not ideal for little kids to view these types of shows daily. Expanding horizons, the children still have the cartoon network, nickelodeon, and Disney, but there have been many statements that the children shows these days can’t compete to the classics. The decline in children’s programming has been triggered with the entrance of several TV series being adored by millions of viewers in the world. Even little kids find great entertainment in latest TV series these days.
TV Today
These days, Television went beyond the expectations before. The main focus right for most television networks is Entertainment. Big networks divided their function into entertainment and news, for example Fox and Fox News, ABC and ABC News, anyway live the news to the big dogs like CNN and BBC. Judging by the line-up flow of the big four (CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX) the competition isn’t that interesting since each network has their own arsenal. NBC has Sunday Night Football, Fox has Empire, CBS has The Big Bang Theory and Thursday Night Football, and finally, ABC has Scandal. These TV programs and NFL broadcasting shows are the front-runners in generating audience for each network. The Wrap released the final ranking of the Big Four plus the CW network last December 2015. NBC was the number 1 network among the five. CBS and ABS were tied for the 2nd place, fox got 4th place, and CW was last in the ranking. Looks like FOX was took a beating this year because according to the writer Tony Maglio “the biggest loser by both counts is Fox, which is down 15 percent in the key demographic and minus 12 percent among total viewers.” Looking at the top 15 TV programs, there isn’t a single children program, some might be acceptable for young viewing but still. Not to mention, the threats of the Internet or viewing programs like Netflix. Some viewers would rather view their favorite TV series through this program rather than open the TV.
