Summary
In the world and over, there has been rapid industrialization coupled with quick growth and urbanization. These aspects have significantly posed different challenges not only related to the allocation of powers, as well as, resources but also those that have a close relationship with the natural environment. Besides, there has been a reduction in the gap existing between the urban and the rural setups, changing patterns of consumption and an increasingly growing population. A significant challenge that arises because of the problems above is that of waste management. It is on this basis that the proposal below will present an analysis of waste production. (GmbH)
The proposal is needful because it has significantly contributed towards environmental degradation e.g. through contaminating water, polluting the air and also creating unhealthy soils amongst others. Worth noting is that such damages in the local environment in most cases hits those groups considered as the most vulnerable in the community. In fact, the marginalized and poor people often do not have the resources required for the reduction of adverse effects associated with a degraded environment. Besides, this group is usually directly dependent on their environment that is destroyed by the problem of waste disposal.
Waste production promotes the culture of sustainability through the protection of the environment from further degradation. Besides, industrial inputs are becoming fewer while energy, on the other hand, becoming more expensive. The concept of waste management is thus closely related to these phenomena since they pose extensive risks to sustainable development. Waste production will, therefore, culminate to efficient management of the waste products to ensure a clean and habitable environment. Through this, the constantly changing consumption patterns, urbanization and also industrial development can be sufficiently kept in check.
The project proposal on waste management has broad social, economic and environmental impacts touching on sustainability. Environmentally, waste management will lead to the reduction of adverse impacts caused particularly on health. Besides, careless waste disposal often results in ugly scenes and as a result, its management will make the environment beautiful again. Economically, the strategies used in the cleanup exercises will provide employment opportunities to the local communities consequently giving them their livelihoods. Lastly, waste management and production will socially impact the community by making the surroundings habitable thus eliminating possible catastrophes from it.
Project Goals and Outcomes
The proposal on waste management and production strives for optimum waste recovery by recycling, vermin-culturing, reusing, composting while at totally zero waste disposal into landfills, as well as, dump yards. Therefore, the long term goal of the proposal is to facilitate the reduction of environmental degradation that is primarily caused by waste products.
Minimization of wastes which need to be disposed-off in various centralized landfills consequently extending the capacities of the available landfills.
Reduction of the environmental impacts especially in the points of disposal.
Benefitting the soil through the utilization of organic compost in place of chemical fertilizers.
For the attainment of the outcomes above, the following steps are necessary to be undertaken:
Training- every employee and volunteer in the project will undergo broad training in regards to the waste management encompassing the spheres of deteriorating environment, human health, treatment, as well as, waste management.
Segregation of waste products at the source- this will be attained by segregating the wastes into biodegradable and the non-biodegradable wastes and consequently segregating them into domestic hazardous, recyclables and lastly non-recyclables.
Collection- the waste will be collected from common areas such as households and then transported to the dumping sites.
Conducting information, as well as, awareness campaigns- this will be done to encourage the community to participate fully in the project.
Lasting Impact & Maintenance Plan
If the waste production plan is run properly, then it will make an immense contribution towards a cleaner natural environment while at the same time maintaining pure ground, as well as, surface water, clean air and also healthy soils. Worth noting is that a clean natural environment will be of benefit to everyone in the society as the livelihoods of several people often depend on the resources that are locally available. Upon the completion of the grant period, hopefully the government will have taken up the initiative of keeping its environment cleaner thus fully financing the project. Notably, the project will depend on volunteers for the facilitation of the activities of the project both in terms of owning the equipment and conducting maintenance activities periodically. Value for Project Leaders/Team
On a personal level, I hope to learn massively from the concepts geared towards environmental protection through efficient waste management. Through this, I would essentially be able to provide education to the members of the society in regards to the manners of taking care of the environment to avoid possible degradation. The project will sufficiently support my personal, academic and professional objectives through the advancement of the initiatives promoted by the government and geared towards the protection of the environment. In order to apply the knowledge gained, I would conduct awareness campaigns in my locality so that the members of the community become acquainted with proper ways of taking care of their wastes.
Qualifications and Experience
I am specifically interested in pursuing this project because of the massive damage that has been caused by unwarranted waste disposal. The natural environment has been put under pressure because currently, wastes are disposed in areas that are not required. As a result, my interest is grounded on offering improvements on the unsustainable, as well as, inadequate waste management systems prevalent in the society. In addition, waste has, in some parts of the world, been used in the production of energy with recycling presently saving more greenhouse gasses than is generated. Inculcating such fundamental concepts to my society is pivotal to my interest in the project proposal on waste production.
Value for the Student Body
The project will impact on the general student body by them being knowledgeable on the aspects regarding waste disposal in school. In fact, they will become aware of both the biodegradable and the non-biodegradable wastes thus separating them before disposing them. To market the project, I will print posters talking about waste responsibility and put them at strategic locations in the school compound. This will enhance the dissemination of information regarding waste management thus improving on the environmental sustainability.
Collaboration
Societal participation in the waste management project is vital for the realization of the expected successes. Some of the groups that will assist in accomplishing the goals of the project include:
Volunteers- motivated personalities e.g. headmasters, religious leaders and teachers will be engaged and assist in conveying the waste management information.
Youth groups, as well as, eco-clubs- such groups in school will be regularly engaged through institutional based intervention programs.
Private companies- both local and international corporations will be relied upon for financial contribution and donating the machinery required.
NGOs and local associations- they will be relied upon primarily to offer the required training on waste production.
Multi-Year Projects
The long term goal for the evolution of this project is based on it being taken up by the government for possible implementation. Through this, the society will become a cleaner place to live in thus preventing adverse effects brought about by irresponsible waste management.
