Human life and experiences have received tremendous transformation as a result of discoveries in various fields. With specific emphasis on the field of communication and electronics, the invention of the radio has substantially impacted on the human life experience and development. Fundamentally, it true to assert that no invention of the modern times has played crucial roles in the delivery of considerable benefits while it initially promised little. In this sense, therefore, the significance of the radio can be observed in general communication amongst human being, advertisement and marketing of goods and services in the modern corporate world, disaster management, and a source of entertainment to human beings.
Perhaps when the radio arrived during the end of the 19th century, insignificant number of people perceived that the wireless communication that involved transmission the intangible signals sent through longer distances would act as a new source of competition in the world dominated by the telephone and other communication forms (Hendy 34). However, this has come to pass as radio has emerged an important form of communication, and which can be accessed by the virtually large number of people across the world. Human beings have become able to receive information about important societal programs and initiatives that affect their social, economic and political well-being.
Human beings have also been able to carry out advertisements through Radios. Ideally, the world we live in today has made things in manners that human needs have to be fulfilled efficiently for continuous growth and prosperity. One way is through engaging in commercial activities such as trade. In this sense, therefore, people have been forced to adopt the use of the radios, as the major means of advertisements for the goods and services. Its usage has demonstrated reliability, convenience, and easily affordable compared to other modes such as the Television, which can only be accessed a particular class of people across the world.
Radios have also acted as the source of music or entertainment in human life (Hendy 34). Ideally, music forms an essential component of human development and prosperity. Ideally, the treatment power of music is a well-established fact due to the healing and soothing powers. Listening to music has promoted relaxation of human bodies in while tackling different issues. Recent studies have shown that the sweet notes of music possess the ability to cure the mental or physical fatigue of an exhausted individual. All these have been made possible through the invention and the introduction of the radios in our lives. To sum up, radio has played the important part in the disaster management programs. It has helped in the quick mobilisation of people to ensure efficient and coordinated response to an emergency (Hendy 34). In this sense, the messages received from the radios have turned individuals from passive listeners to active individuals within the society, particularly during crisis times.
I think the absence of the radio would have subjected the world into a state of passivity to information, greater mental and health challenges in individuals and reduced trading rates. Besides, human beings would not be able to effectively tackle various emergency issues and disasters that may come to their ways. While it is evident that radio invention and development has virtually come to its end, I think more development and amendments of parts or whole devise is still likely to occur.
