Individuals are surrounded by the gender lore right from childhood. The gender lore is present in conflict, humor, and conversation, and it is utilized to explain and refer to everything from the dressing styles, driving, and preferences. When it comes to language, sex, sexuality, and gender raise several controversies and contradictions since people and organizations have different understandings and attitudes. This paper develops a reflection on sex, sexuality, and gender in language.
Society is currently dealing with the issue of transphobia, sexism, and homophobia. The offensive behaviors arise during interactions, conversations, and speeches. An example of a leader in the American society who occasionally raises transphobic, homophobic, and sexist quotes is Donald Trump. The forerunner for the presidency post in the United States stands by his principles regardless of what the rest of the society thinks. Donald Trump represents the traditional individuals in the community with a sense of populism. Throughout his campaigns, Donald Trump demeans the ability of Hillary Clinton, a female candidate, to satisfy the nation when she cannot even satisfy her husband (Anti Fascist Front par. 5). His unsympathetic comments have the capability to generate conflicts in the United States along cultural and gender lines. People are called upon to challenge homophobic, transphobic, racist, and sexist moments to preserve peace in the society.
The media also has a significant influence on the discussions of sexuality, sex, and gender. The media tends to be powerful and pervasive in terms of how people view women and men. The images that the journalists provide of the sexes perpetuate limiting, stereotypical, and unrealistic perceptions. The representation of the American life of the genders portrays females as beautiful, passive, very slender, and solely interested in building relationships or getting married. They are also bad women who are bitchy and not as pretty, caring, and subordinate as the good females. Men come out as ambitious and powerful with a taste for adventures and safeguarding the damsels in distress or the dependent women (Bergvall 13). The myths are taken up by the society and fortified in the discussions of gender, sexuality, and sex.
