In Something to Believe In, Pope John XXIII explains the precepts of peaceful coexistence between men and nations. The article starts with a salutation to the whole humankind and states that peace can never be achieved or guaranteed. The Pope, further, states that the universal order, which has been discovered through science and technology, unveils the greatness of man. He adds that the scientific and technological inventions by man validate the “infinite greatness of God” who is the creator of the universe and the man. He stresses the greatness of God as the creator by quoting from the bible, giving his arguments credibility among the audience. In discussing “Order in Human Beings,” the Pope first points out the existing disunity among individuals and states. He also states that the disunity is in contrast with the universal order established by God and that has been discovered by man through science and technology. The Pope points that the erroneous opinions about the kind of forces that govern human relations had led to the prevailing conflict. He states that the conscience holds the laws that govern human relations and continues to discuss those forces in the order between men as rights. He gives credibility to his argument by quoting from other popes, as well as the bible. Finally, he discusses reiterates the need for individuals and states to respect the rights and undertake the necessary duties conferred by those rights.
