The Apology is the portraiture of the infallible worldview of Socrates and preaches one to thrive on high standards of virtue and morality. While Socrates was called for a trial to the court of Athens on charge of impunity, he delivered the speech which amalgamates his irony, ethical concerns and the elenchus.
The speech teaches us not to compromise our beliefs and virtues even in the face of grave jeopardy. We are only rendered humanity and knowledge when we remain unfazed by the varied impediments which come up in our lives. Knowledge and wisdom is not something to boast of. Rather, one should always question the beliefs and views that have been illogically institutionalized by the societal norms. This might mean challenges would be posed against us on the path of finding the truth of life. Humility needs to define our personality. It is only through our belief that there is much more to know, we can tread on the alley of life and gain wisdom. An ideal man would aim at the betterment of the society through the collective advancement of the civilization. Embarking upon a journey to quench this thirst, one should remain undaunted and persistent in his pursuit. Socrates remained calm even as death knocked at his door at the end of the trial. Nevertheless, his acceptance of demise as the impending inevitability had the spark of invigorating spirit of his intrepid heart as he believed that no one except the transcendental figures, gods, know what awaits us after death. We should not be fearful for death at any juncture of our lives and should nurture the spirit of truth in the innermost core of our hearts. Valor is what would make an individual transcend the constrictions laid down by the society. What lies ahead is only a voyage which should be ready to embrace it. Both in life and death, there is no way we should give up our virtues, make compromise with our conscience and morality. We need to aim at a better future for ourselves and the society with the truest of our emotions. Thus The Apology quintessentially teaches the human race to get its ambitions and visions channelized in the correct direction in life.
