The Divine Command Theory that resounds that a particular incident or object is good and morally right as long as God commands it. Otherwise, God would not command such action due to its evil nature. The basis of the theory rests on the assertion that God exists and the source of the objection for goodness and evil. Those things that are dictated by God are morally right as long as it adheres to His commands. This theory not only pertains to the monotheistic religions, but also encompasses religions with multiple gods and goddesses. In this theory, the source of morality can be solely derived from one source for monotheistic religion and can be derived from different sources, as well. The sources of morality can arbitrary depend on the justification of the source of morality, which is God. The identification of the source of morality also forms the foundation of the theory. In this theory, the argument rests on objective moral laws. In addition, this theory would require a lawmaker. In such scenario, those considered as objective truth are incapable of human origin. The assertion also requires the creator of objective laws to be non-human. In direct relation to this theoretical framework, the
The foundation of the theory would be insignificant for atheist. Without their belief in the existence of God and other deities, there would be no source of morality. There would be non-existent of moral objectivity. As atheists question the belief in a supernatural creator, the principle of identifying the source and proving its existence can be hard as it transcends physical realities. Since God is non-human and supernatural, the exclusion of his existence to the equation of Divine Command Theory can considerably forfeit its function to explain the morality. There are two possible perspectives for this theory. God may command such actions in humans because they are right or these actions are right because God commands them. In the first perspective, it could nullify the position of God, as a powerful being as there is still a source of his morality. However, the latter has more affinity is distinguishing God as the primary source of morality in the sense that God supersedes the formation of morality. However, in the effort to follow this assertion, God can control the basis for morality as He decides right from wrong. Any commands from God is considered right and justifiable. Hence, if God commands humans to kill each other it would be morally right in this case. In this theory, the definition of God as a supreme source of morality can defer the rights of humans to determine the ground for their own moral. Any crime commanded by God may have repercussions in the society as it defies the restrictions on law and governance.
