There has been a lot of debate about the issue surrounding the NCAA football and how the top tier players are being acquired. Despite the fact that the athletes are spending a lot of time training, they are being looked down upon especially with regards to remuneration. However, the top tier programs are willing to spend lots of money on the college football players just to have them signed for various teams. According to the video, intense research was conducted and it came out that the players were being acquired through corrupt deals.
It was revealed that a top tier athletes were acquired through illegal means. The going rate for such athletes involved huge amounts of funds. A lot of money was being paid under the table just to acquire such athletes. Over $180,000 was paid under the table just to have a top tier athlete. However, this was not all because there were other parties that were willing to pay double the amount. Nonetheless, these black box funds being spent on these athletes were not appearing in any individual’s bank accounts.
Despite the huge amounts of funds being spent on these top tier athletes, they were not being advocated for play for pay. This implies that they were receiving very little amount of money or to some extent some were not being paid. These athletes, spend most of their time training and yet they are being underpaid. They play football for approximately eleven months with very little in their pockets. A player was being paid $1000 per month and $500 to the family. Ironically, the teams and coaches were being paid huge amounts for the athletes. At the end, the teams earn more money. Some athletes wondered why agents were being involved and yet the amount of money they earn was just but peanuts. It will come a time when these players will strike and refuse to go and play because their efforts are not being recognized. Therefore it is the responsibility of the NCAA to ensure that these athletes’ rights are being protected to avoid exploitation from the top tier programs.
