One of the major themes in Donald Trump’s inauguration speech was the focus on his future plans as a President. The President is trying to send a message to his audience that from now on he will put America first and all the American people will come first. His main strategy is “to buy American, hire American” (Trump Web).
There was a number of logical fallacies that were used by Mr. Trump. One of them is hasty generalization: “America will start winning again, winning like never before” (Trump Web). It is the first day of his presidency and he already knows that he will make the country greater that it has ever been which means that it will be a golden time for America in comparison to the past 300 years. However, it is not possible to make such a claim. Since he cannot predict the future and make a comparison to a 300 year old past. He is also using circular argument: “From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it's going to be only America first, America first” (Trump Web). He uses unnecessary repetitions which make both of these sentences having the same thought. There are many other examples of logical fallacies in his speech.
Trump’s inauguration speech is aimed at his electoral audience. He does not use any extravagant language because he is not trying to reach out to the upper class. His promises are empty judging on his recent actions that proof his idea about human equality. His audience is very narrow. Therefore, this whole speech and the number of logical fallacies provides a correct image of the speaker.
