List of the Musical Piece
Little Three-Penny Music – Kurt Weill
Hillandale Waltzes – Victor Babin
Octet – Igor Stravinsky
Reaction to the Concert
For the Little Three-Penny Music, all I can say is that this musical piece was so unpredictable. In the beginning the mood seemed to be very calm. It was then followed by, for me, a series of joyful arrangements; then it proceeded to a mellowing mood again and then right back to the joyful part. It was pretty good and I felt relaxed as I listened to it.
For the Hillandale Waltzes, I would say that it was comical. Being played using wind instruments, it was of course, relaxing. I could imagine myself watching a comedy movie filmed before the 50s. It was a fast-paced musical performance compared to the Little Three-Penny Music. It aroused my joyful feelings and there were very few slow transition moments throughout the piece. So far, this piece among the three pieces performed that night is what I liked the most. I enjoyed listening to it because it kind of stimulated my imaginations.
Lastly, for the Octet performance, I can say that it was more dull compared to the two previous performances. The moment I closed my eyes, I could imagine myself watching a mystery movie. However, I saw a lot of different instruments played in this performance—I could distinguish even if I closed my eyes because of the different sounds I heard. Overall it was a good piece. I kind of liked the compositions of Stravinsky because of the complex variations that he employed to his compositions.
Overall, I found the concert pleasing. My expectations were met and I enjoyed my time watching the performers, especially the conductor, perform on the stage. They seem so good at what they were doing. Actually, one of the things I like about the concert was the way how the people in charge there do things and perform them smoothly. With regards to the pieces, I think that they were also good enough considering the credibility of the people who composed those pieces and their contribution to classical music.
