Effective teamwork starts with a good team. But not every group of people working together can be called a team. The team is a number of people with complementary skills related to a single plan, aspiring to common goals and share responsibility for achieving them. The interests of each team member are secondary. Each team member should have a high professional level, to be able to make decisions and interact effectively with others. Team members depend on each other, or rather the work of one depends on the work of another. Team members share responsibility for achieving the goal together.
Within my working experience, I was always working in a team. It is indeed a pleasure to see everyone struggling to achieve the team goals. Yet, I would like to emphasize on some signs of a good team. In it, members consider themselves as a part of the team adhering the balance between effective teamwork and cooperation. Usually, my group members feel competent, perform tasks independently and are responsible for their implementation. However, there were continuous debate on how to improve collaboration and efficiency of teamwork. Everyone were offering his or her ideas and criticizing others and I was not an exception. Still, it was good that team members were aware of the problems of each other, had an idea of the talents and abilities. It proved the respect for each other. The air atmosphere of open and constructive communication allowed me to improve the skills I had and to gain some new ones though the open dialogue. Overall, working in a team is always a pleasant but tough thing to do. However, having one ultimate goal always helps to overcome all possible difficulties. I was personally doing my best to be the backup for my fellow team member.
Being a team leader, I would do my best to create a workable, efficient team of professionals. The role of the leader is very important: he or she forms the basic principles of interaction of vector sets, fundamentally affect the climate in the team. In most cases, the leader should properly select the model management and teamwork, and this actually determines further success in the market. To cope with all this, I would consider myself within at least three roles: analyst, strategist and builder. All successful leaders often separate the understanding of the market and their own business models. This requires both analytical abilities and skills with large amounts of information. As a leader, I should have a vision and "catch" in the flow of information, opportunities and possible threats. Afterwards, I will need to transfer this information to the team members as fast as possible.
I am sure that it is equally important for the leader to forecast some business tendencies and convince the team members to work in the way I consider reasonable and proper. Still, I would be always open for the new thought and idea the team member may have. Sometimes, the leader may be too much convinced in his or her own rightness, yet constructive critics should be always welcomed. At last, but not the least, to create a team, successful leaders are paying attention to the formal and informal interactions among the members of the team, watching the match of his words and deeds. If the manager acts contrary to its claims, team spirit evaporates.
There are many roles for the manager that I would master: the controller, politician, businessman, lobbyist, PR, moderator, arbitrator and a workhorse. Successful teamwork actually depends on how effectively I will fulfill all these roles.
