Introduction
Blog, also known as online journal, are increasingly flocking in the internet in the current time. Back when internet was established, websites were commonly used and are still developed and applied by web users. However, many users are shifting to blogs. This essay analyses three websites and three blogs to derive the similarities and differences between websites and blogs. The blogs that are used in the essay include “Tuning into the Universe”, “Put a Face on It” and “Showdown Fatigue”. The website includes Wikipedia, Internet Movie Database and The Real Wood Company website.
The chosen websites and blogs are accessed through different URL or Web addresses. The Wikipedia website is accessed through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page, IMDb is accessed via http://www.imdb.com/ and the Real Wood Company is accessed through http://www.therealwoodcompany.co.uk/. On the side of blog, they are also accessed through the URL. “Tuning into the Universe”, “Put a Face on It” and “Showdown Fatigue” are accessed through http://www.huffingtonpost.com/honor-harger/tuning-into-the-universe_b_2737168.html , http://www.huffingtonpost.com/anna-deavere-smith/put-a-face-on-it_b_2741029.html and http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-reich/showdown-fatigue_b_2741694.html respectively.
For easy retrieval, all the three blogs and websites have intensive information, pictures, key words and links. However, not all blogs, website and blogs contain pictures as well that helps to elaborate the information. For instance, Tuning into the Universe blog contains images that assist in explaining the concept and study of the solar system. The other two blogs does not contain images in their contents but qualifies for the other aspects such as links and keywords. For example, key words for “Put a Face on It” are The Oscars, Django Unchained among others. On the other hand, the key words examples of the Real Wood Company’s website are Garden houses, Construction, Price List, Wall types and Building your structure among others.
However, these Blogs and website are different in some features. The three blogs are regularly updated, “Tuning into the Universe” being updated the some few hours after it was posted. This show that blog’s information can be updated frequently depending the needs and views of the writer. The three website does not have the date that they were posted indicating that they are not frequently updated. Wikipedia and The Real Wood Company’s website have the information that does not change. Wikipedia contains various facts, figures, theories and concept of different subjects while The Real Wood Company contains the detailed information about the company and the services it offers. However, when the information on the IMDb is changed, the whole page changes with new information and contents.
For the three website, professionals who have an experience in web design and the general internet system mention them. On the other hand, the three blogs and written and managed by the writers who does not have to be professional in the ICT sector. This is the reason why website are owned by companies, that are not normally exposed to the readers, while most of the blogs are written by different individuals.
In the three websites, readers do not communicate as easy as on the blogs. The three websites offers some variety of information as a primary function. However, the three blogs provide a place to leave comments that enable reader to drop their views on the blog. Websites in this case are private, i.e. they are managed and operated by private owners while the three blogs are published to allow the readers and writers to read and drop their views and comments. This portrays another difference between the blogs and websites.
