Rubin is a married woman, a mother of two daughters and living in New York City as a professional writer. Despite having a loving, handsome husband Jamie, good relationship with family members, there are several instances in her life that she feels dejected, insecure and frequently drifting away from old friends. At some point in April, the author says she was in danger of wasting herself. It is important to come to a realization of what is the purpose in life from a personal perspective considering that everyone has unique elements that keep them happy. Rubin's happiness project offers insight into my happiness with regards to improving relationships and discovering myself.
Changing one's life is the primary objective of a joy project; the basis of my happiness project is according to Rubin's three steps; “preparation stage that entails identifying what brings joy and boredom, the second is making of resolutions, the elements that boost happiness and finally abiding by the decisions.” My happiness project is in four parts; in chapter one, I focus on a sleep schedule, regular exercise, and personal organization. Part two of my project entails relationships and my social life; I strive to stop nagging and only choose right and necessary battles to fight. The third aspect is on realizing the inner me, allowing me to act myself and enjoy making mistakes because it is a learning process. Chapter four where I expect to come to achieve my happiness goal, I plan to reflect on happy memories and enjoy, more like fogging happiness. According to Rubin statement, "happiness entails the effort of changing one's life through sequential activities" this forms a basis for the planning of my happiness project.
There are several instances that Rubin's happiness project proves to be problematic more particularly in the creative ways that she thinks conquering her fears would add up to happiness. Individual concerns in life are among the major things that one should avoid in the happiness project after identifying in the preparation stage. Focusing because of fears for instance how Rubie feels scared when driving should be out of her focus and only concentrate on her strengths and what excites her, this depicts flaws in the project that do not connect to happiness according to research.
The major concept behind a happiness project is to change the way of life and make it more exciting. Rubin decisions to learn photoshop, reading Shakespeare, and spending more time with friends and having fun is a way that increases her happiness according to research in effective, clinical, and social science examining.
Comparing myself to others, for instance, is among the things I should stop doing as per my happiness project. According to Dalai Lama, "you can only be second best when attempting to be like someone else". Everyone is unique with specific capabilities and talents; a comparison can be detrimental to one's happiness because the goal to be even is not achievable. Improving my social life is one aspect that I would like to improve which is similar to Rubin's; creating more time for laughs and maximizing the happy moments when out with friends and family. Rubin hooks up and maintains communication with old friends that they go out frequently as one of the strategies to improve her social life.
The pursuit of happiness is problematic because according to research, Emilia Z states that "happiness finds a person you do not go looking for it." Rubin, for instance, focuses on activities in her daily life that she enjoys doing, assuming her boredom and fears, surrounding herself with entertaining friends; this is a way to happiness but not chasing after the same. I can focus on this different perspective of achieving happiness like Rubin. In addition to this according to A Dark Side of Happiness, "the more you seek it, the less you find it" Therefore happiness does not come to people who single-minded pursue it, it important to identify unique individual activities such as exploiting talents or helping others for happiness.
Conscious behavioral changes are necessary to change my brain structure considering the mind controls an individual's emotions including happiness. I will focus on being polite, reading adventure stories as well as keep in contact with my friends, according to one of brainalogy statements "good behavior helps to create a favorable environment around myself, a happy atmosphere." A high degree of happiness is not always better and may be associated with undesirable and unintended outcomes when it exceeds a certain threshold.
