The day I was born was a sad day for the entertainment industry across the world. This was due to a premature death of a popular soap opera actor, Bill Bayers, who succumbed to AIDs in Los Angles at the age of 37 years. There was also the death of Ollie Halsal, English born guitarist who died of heart attack in Spain. However, it turned out to be a good day for mothers and healthcare sector following the ruling of U.S judge Charles Richey blocking limitation on abortion guidance.
Abortion counseling can be defined as the act of giving guidance to a woman who has terminated pregnancy with a view of helping them lead a healthy and normal life again. Over the past years, there have been few professionals offering abortion counseling services to needy women, thereby locking out many women from making sound choices. Today, I’m privileged to introduce you to three risks of abortion: Infection and bleeding, hysterectomy and Asherman’s Syndrome. To Begin with, let’s explore infection and bleeding.
Infection and bleeding are major risks that continue to put mothers at harm’s way in case of an abortion. It occurs when the abortion process is not done professionally leading to incomplete drainage from the uterus. This will call for a corrective surgery to remedy the situation. The process may be costly and require urgent medical attention to prevent loss of life. This explains why Judge Charles Richey, Cited in the Los Angeles Time article Judge Blocks Limits on Abortion Counselling on May 29, 1992 blocked President Bush administration from implementing laws that will only allow doctors to offer abortion counselling, leaving nurses on the cold. According to Washington post, the judge found the limitation unlawful and contravenes the 1988 federal regulation.
Similar to infection and bleeding, hysterectomy, a condition characterize by tear of the uterus walls and can lead to infection due to the perforation caused by sharp medical equipment used in during the abortion process. As such, the mother needs to get timely medical intervention to stop the infection. The increasing cases of abortion makes it practically impossible to allow only doctors to offer such vital guidance and counseling services.
Now that we have looked at the infection and bleeding and hysterectomy, let us dissect the Asherman’s syndrome. This particular condition arises from the scar tissue on the uterus walls as a result of a surgical abortion which might cause such growth leading to a painful scar. The condition if not treated early enough can lead to infertility or subsequent future miscarriages.
Conclusion
As we have seen, infection and bleeding, hysterectomy, and Asherman’s Syndrome possess major health risk to women who have undergone the abortion process. The conditions can lead to death or perpetual pain of infertility or miscarriages. Consequently, both doctors and nurses should collectively offer abortion counseling to save life and enable the women live comfortably.
