People by their curious nature always wanted to find answers to all mysteries and secrets of the world. They are interested in different things and phenomena around them, look for reasons of their existence and could not pass over even the smallest details of their appearance. One of the most complicated mysteries of this universe is probably the creation of the world itself. Even in modern times humans did not manage to solve this eternal question. The truth is that it seems almost impossible to authentically explain how everything was actually created.
Throughout the history there existed different theories that tried to give the most truthful explanation on the world’s creation. Each of them has its adherents and opponents and could not be proved totally veritable or fallacious. It is up to everyone to choose his own truth because there will always be some drawbacks in any of theories and presumptions. We will try to find answer to the existence or absence of God ourselves, taking into consideration two proposed articles: Why There Almost Certainly Is No God by Richard Dawkins and Hugh Ross' Testimony by Dr. Hugh Ross.
These two articles presented completely opposite arguments and made an attempt to demonstrate their truthfulness. The author of the first article is a great supporter of scientific evidences who explained humans’ existence “by a combination of the anthropic principle and Darwin's principle of natural selection” (Dawkins, 2006). According to Richard Dawkins, this combination was more than enough to produce perfect and satisfactory explanation for everything that people could saw and understood.
The second article, on the contrary, tried to prove the presence of God as the Creator of the whole universe. Hugh Ross stated that Bible was the most reliable source that “correctly described the major events in the creation of life on earth” (Hugh, 1990). The author spent a lot of time trying to find any scientific and historical inexactitudes in Bible and finally had to acknowledge that it was error free and that its perfectness could be made by the Creator Himself.
Though most people used to believe in what they can see, the existence of God would never be accepted by everyone. That’s why Richard Dawkins claimed that the presence of God in the universe was also purely scientific hypothesis. Any creative deity was in fact capable of terminating the regress that was only possible to evolution or some kind of gradualistic 'crane' (Dawkins, 2006). All of the author’s scientific facts and statements seem very complicated to apprehend and could even muddle a matter even more.
On my opinion, the person should at first try to grasp the question with his faith and only after that with the common sense. No matter how logical and ostensible proofs could be, they would not solve the task without the present element of faith. Hugh Ross’s explanations and evidences seemed to me more comprehensible and convincing ones. The writer did not controvert apparent laws of physics but chose to believe in the Bible’s authority the same way as he trusted various laws of nature and physics.
There should exist some divine power that caused everything else to move and act. One of the most famous Catholic philosophers and theologians of the thirteenth century, St. Thomas Aquinas, stated that “God” was that original cause due to which there appeared possibilities to the existence of the world and the concept of time (Bonnette, 1972). The Bible was not as complicated and entangled as all works of the European philosophers of the Enlightenment who tended to treat religion very skeptically. While their masterpieces were full of discrepancies, evasions and incongruities, the “holy” book could explain everything in rather simple, perspicuous and specific way.
The moment people believe in the existence of God, their lives will become more colourfuland meaningful. The man without faith is just an insignificant creature on one of the doomed planets of the boundlessly unfathomable universe. Hugh Ross on his own example demonstrated that Jesus Christ did not force anybody to believe in him and only came to those who invited him in their homes. No matter how anxious and broken humans’ hearts could be, God knew what would bring them peace and rest. Jesus Chirst and God in fact always helped disappointed souls to choose the right path among hundreds of roads and never left anybody in need.
So, it is up to everyone to believe or contradict God and his role in the creation of the entire universe. The truth is that there really exists some creative deity that initiated the beginning of life in our planet. Those who possess the element of faith call it “God” and continue to believe in his power in spite of the lack of convincing proofs of his existence.
