Station I
One is welcomed with a smile and warmth that makes one feel that every need in terms of the eye check up will be addressed. Initially, prior to seeing the doctor, there is a preliminary or a pre-testing that is done to provide valuable information such as the condition of the eyes of the patient, which will enhance the optician’s ability to assess the problem with the patient. Once an individual is seated, the initial thing that is done is to ensure that the patient is seated comfortably. In case there is no queue in the pretesting equipment, the patient is then directed to the equipment whose surfaces are cleaned as the patient watches. Any information that is collected is recorded neatly and in a manner the optician or doctor can understand easily. The patient is directed to a waiting area where the doctor will call upon the patient once the pre-testing is done. It is vital to note that in the clinic, there is great use and emphasis on etiquette and manners. Usage of the word ‘please’ makes an individual feel appreciated.
The clinic makes sure that the patient is provided with all the relevant information of what the computerized eye test will achieve and even the various functions of the parts of the machine. More importantly, the head and chin rest area in the machine are sterilized with alcohol and wiped with a throwaway tissue. The machine does the analysis of the eyes, and a printout of the results is provided.
Station II
Station II serves as a support office for the doctors and the patients as well. All equipment and patient records that the doctor will use are managed in this support office. Additionally, coordination of patients in the exam and waiting rooms is done by this support station. Necessary documents that the patient is required to sign are provided. Once all tests and examinations of the patients are done, the equipment needs to be covered, and all lights switched off. Under station II, the patient is informed about the dates when to come to collect the new glasses after a being examined by the doctor.
Station III
This is where the doctor actually exams the patient based on the information or prescription that is provided from pre-testing in station I. The doctor asks the patient several questions to provide an assessment of the eyewear needs and desires of the patient. Asking the questions provides a foundation for successful interaction between the doctor and the patient. The doctor informs the patient on how to use the glasses in a way that may derive the best comfort and use. Lenses are selected based on several aspects such as single vision, progressives, computer lenses and digital lenses. The selection of these lenses has to correlate with the patient’s feedback and interests. Information regarding lens enhancement features such as tints and materials whether glass or plastic are provided indicating their advantages and disadvantages. The patient is allowed to select the frame based on several trials. The information of the frame is recorded together with all other relevant information regarding the lenses on the order form once the frame has selected.
