The fact that Juli can smoke weed shows that she is really the care free woman that any guy would want. This is because every guy would want to have a woman who is easy to talk to and fun to be with. The gypsy lady is very sexy,but is only after material possession. This we see when she spikes Daniel’s drink only to rob him of his possessions. Juli on the other hand, wants nothing from Daniel but his affection. This is evident when we see her give Daniel a declaration of love to say to the woman he loves. She goes with him in his quest to find the woman he loves, but on the way she falls for him instead.
She cannot reveal her true feelings for him because Daniel is pursuing another woman in Istanbul. Finally, we see her and Daniel at the border crossing in Romania. This time Daniel is in trouble as his travel documents were stolen by the gypsy woman and he cannot get across. She even deviates her journey and accompanies Daniel on his quest. She gives everything to Daniel including sharing a bed with him. We see how she is tempted to make love to him in this scene as he faces the other side, but she holds back her cravings. When a woman leaves everything behind in pursuit of a man then this shows that she cares and loves him. In this world, there are two things that people will like you for. The first is material possessions which in turn commands an audience. It even buys affection as women love to be spoilt and be made comfortable. The other, is who you are, your personality and character. In this case, Juli is the genuine lady as she enjoys Daniel’s company and cannot bear to be separated from him. She even waits for him in Istanbul after they are separated when Daniel finally meets Melek and leaves with her. When he finally realizes that Melek is Isa’s girlfriend, he goes back to Istanbul and finds Juli patiently waiting for him. That is when he realizes that the woman he is supposed to be with has been with him all along.
Melek on the other hand is not forthright. She leads Daniel into believing that she is mutually attracted to him. The scene where they spend the night together leads him to believe that she is genuinely interested in him. Her interest was only in that night when they toured the city together. She does not want to spend more time with him as she leaves the next morning. She does not even mention that she has a boyfriend until when they go to aid Isa over the dead body found in the trunk of his car. That is when he is disappointed and runs back to Juli.
In the end, when they are given a lift by Isa is when Daniel sees the tattoo of the sun on Juli’s back. He realizes that it is the same symbol found on his ring. He then realizes that Juli was pointing him to her the whole time. This includes the invitation to the party he was given by her, which was meant for them to know each other well. In conclusion, Daniel saw that he was looking for love while it was staring at him right in the face.
