The issues on sexuality is a complex thing to most people across the world, but when it comes to sex offenders, a good number of people believe that it is only men who fall under that category. However, things have changes and females have the same potential to fall under sex offenders as men. Most of the registered sex offenders are high school teachers with their male students. This discussion will show statistically whether female sex offenders has increased or decreased in the last twenty years.
According to ABC News in 1999, 12% of women in Minnesota were found guilty sexually offending male children under 6yrs old, 3% for children between 6-12yrs, and 3% for victims between 13-17yrs (Robinson, 1999). In 2009, the guardian posted an article stating that the number of female offenders in Britain has increased dramatically, with about 64,000 women confirmed to be sex offenders (Townsend & Syal, 2009). Moore (2016) stated that the number of female sex offenders registered in Northeast Mississippi is only 3%, although he admitted that the number may be feared higher than that.
As the statistic shows, the number of female sex offenders has been realized to decrease with time since 1999. This is a good sign from 12% in 1999, through 5% in 2009 (Cortoni et al., 2009), to 3% in 2016. However, the number could be higher that stated, because not many males would come forward and report that they have been sexually abused by women. In other world, males fear victimization because that women. Again, the society may find it hard to believe in female sex offenders like they do when it comes to male sex offenders. Most importantly, things have changed and today, women are not oppressed like before, because they have almost similar powers with men, and that is the principle reason to a decrease of female sex offenders.
