Communication is an essential aspect when it comes to the coordination of activities in groups and among individuals. Recently, I was involved in a group project to package foods for the have-not who cannot afford them and are starving to death. The project was successful, but there is room for improvement.
Given a chance to start the project afresh, I could engage some extra strategies. During the activity, most of the directions were coming from the higher-ranked people, and this made some of the subordinates feel oppressed. To make the project effective, I would ensure all the stakeholders give their viewpoints and in the case of any disagreement in the packaging designs and time, they are fully addressed. Another issue is the communication feedback. Some of the volunteers felt discriminated since after making a contact it took ages before feedback was given.
In the new project, I would ensure there is involvement of all the people in the communication and decisions making to bring togetherness among the group. Feedback is a critical issue when working as a team. I would ensure feedback is immediately given for any query within the minimal time to avoid people feeling like their viewpoints are not considered significant. There is the need for the group members to get acquainted with each other, which helps them develop a deeper understanding and relationship (John 78). During the project, we had forums that allowed the people to suggest the areas they felt there is a need for improvement. The open communications were efficient, and I could not change this even if given a chance to start the project afresh. Free sharing brings togetherness in a group.
The most import lesson I gained from the project is the strength of open communication while working as a team. When people have good communication, (John 77) ideas are exchanged with ease, there is motivation, and this develops a feeling of togetherness and better performance.
