Over recent decades of continuous debates about women’s discrimination, gender equality becomes a hot topic around the globe. However, giving women the right for equality often means giving them the right to manipulate men easily, so as fighting for women’s rights often leads to men’s discrimination. Such gender bias mostly affects both employees and employers as they are to be responsible for choosing right ethical behaviour to control the balance of gender equality in order to keep a positive image of the company.
The video shows the example of ambiguous ethical situation occurred at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers located in Silicon Valley. One of the company’s employers, Ellen Pao, has filed a lawsuit against gender discrimination after being terminated. Yet, the company claims gender inequality has not been the case, so as Ellen Pao has been fired for bad performance (ABCN 2015).
It is not easy to dig into the truth behind the situations of this kind because it is easy to offer false evidence against both parties involved in the conflict so as this may lead to more complicated consequences. If solved improperly, the issue can become an incentive for negative outcomes. On the one hand, companies can continue to ignore the issue of gender inequality leaving women to fight for their rights with no hope to be heard. On the other hand, women can use the situation for their benefit by discriminating men instead. Consequently, gender issues seem to be an everlasting game played between males and females, an endless battle between smartness and honesty. Thus, gender discrimination can be defined as not only an ethical issue but a morality play faced by both employees and employers individually.
