Gender discrimination means gender inequality. This occurs when there is an imbalance between men and women, especially in the workplace. This paper will discuss gender discrimination as an environmental factor.
The effects of gender discriminations are many, especially in employment sector. This situation usually occurs when another superior gender is undermining a less superior gender. Gender discrimination can occur to both genders. One of the effects of gender discrimination in the workplace is that it increases the number of a particular gender and it creates unfriendly working environment (Scott, 2016). Hence, gender discrimination promotes violence and harassment, which can affect the health of an individual.
One of the primary interventions is to improve the representation of both genders in the workplace. Also, various organizations should educate their employees on the effects of gender discriminations and ways to prevent it at all costs. The secondary prevention is to ensure that one individual in the company is given the opportunity to handle any cases of gender discrimination. Lastly, the tertiary prevention of gender discrimination situations is to formulate laws that accommodate all forms of gender discrimination.
One of the role that nurses should play is to ensure that people, who have experienced gender discrimination, should be given special psychological attention. Another thing that nurses should do is to ensure that the affected people are given support in case of gender discrimination has affected the way they view life.
Some of the social and cultural factors affecting gender discrimination include; income inequality, unfair hiring, unfair promotions, and unfair subjection of job assignments. In addition, economical factors include; difficulty in finance to come up with programs that handle gender discrimination issues. Some of the legal factors that make it difficult to resolve the cases of gender discrimination are due to personal perspectives and differences of the key people in the company (Spielberger Law Group LLC, 2014). Also, the people who may be responsible to handle gender discrimination may be favoring a particular gender.
The concept of social justice include; coming up with civil rights that prohibits gender discrimination in all works of life. Also, diversity and inclusion policies should be put in place to curb the cases of gender discrimination.
