Even though throughout the history the position of women has advanced, the pessimistic image that now, more the ever, women carry a lot of burden on their backs in evident. Based on the article The Rhetoric and Reality of "Opting Out", the educated and middle class women tend to leave their successful careers because they cannot achieve the best results as mothers and devoted professionals at the same time. The working environment is built according to the men's parameters. On the other hand, being a mother also takes a lot of energy and is time-consuming because trends dictate the education of future generations. Who would like to leave its child to be raised by a nanny at a crucial age of its emotional and intellectual development? The husbands see the answer in the given privilege of women to choose. But the question is: Is a choice just a masque for culturally and rationally induced reaction of every woman?
No matter how boring statistics are, they reveal that regardless of the culturally differently societies women are not treated equally as men. In every aspect of their lives, women have to fight to be treated equally as men, and they are still not accepted by the men. Just by being women and having a capability to give birth, they are stigmatized from the ruling men world. The obstacles lure on every corner, from evident sexual harassment to subtle glass ceiling. Therefore, it seems that women are accepted as workers who have an expiration date and the peak of their career is before giving a birth. After that, they are marked as persons divided between jobs and families with diminished devotion towards the job demand. The gender roles of women have included so much new roles along the old ones whereas the men still have only one job role, to be providers. As the culture, society and media send many different signals to women, like work, be pretty, be a good mother and a wife, how much more can a woman take or is it time for new women revolution where the world will be organized according to their needs?
