During my rather short lifetime, I had understood what life is, what are difficulties in it, and that there is the way out from any situation. The thing that always helped me to keep the lights on was the support of my close relatives and my religion. The complete change in my life came during the time called Ramadan.
Three years ago, I was a high school student. These times prove to be the hardest for me. At first, I worried not to fail the high school, but my parents persuaded me that there is nothing to worry about if I study hard and that my efforts will not be wasted. So I was excited about that and planned to study very hard to graduate from high school.
One day I applied for a new job in the Ministry of Higher Education in my country to get some money not to depend on somebody. After two days, I was admitted and started to work. My salary was about $11000 which was good. After a couple of months, I got a car for me so I can go to school and drop off my family to the places they want to go. A month later Ramadan came to us. Ramadan is a month in our religion. In my religion, we must fast in the days of Ramadan. Thus, people gather with their families and visit each other. One day the whole family went to my grandfather’s. We were enjoying our time talking with each other. An engineer communicated with a doctor and a judge spoke to a pilot. I was thinking about that, and I said why I am the only one who has no diploma degree. So I searched and asked my friends about that and how can I apply for a university. I went to the mosque and prayed to be admitted to a college. The next day, I realized that my wish was achieved. I went to the Ministry of High Education to apply for a scholarship to study the English language before I enroll in a university. I got the scholarship to the USA. I studied the English language for one year in San Francisco, California. I took the IELTS test. This test was required for me as an international student. The test determines my English level, in other words checking if I met the requirements and had good language command to be able to study. After that I searched for a university then I found Tennessee Tech. It did not take me a long time, just two days of my application and I got the admission from the university. I notified the embassy of my country that I got an admission, and they accepted, and they sent me a scholarship and financial guarantee. I was triumphal about that, and I remembered myself back two years when I had only the high school certificate. My family was very pleased and proud of me.
