For this paper, the DSL and cable modem service selected for analysis is Google Fiber. The selected service is an internet broadband and cable television service offered by Google. Currently, the company offers its DSL and cable modem services to select locations within the United States. This include Atlanta, Kansas City, Nashville, San Antonio and, Austin just to mention a few (Google Fiber, 2016). There are also other major cities and locations where the services are expected to continue expanding as demand for the service continues to increase. Furthermore, it is important to note that it is one of the fastest internet service available to customers since it offers speeds of up to one gigabit per second.

Based on the researched information, the speeds provided on the platform is one gigabit per second or 1,000 Mbit/s (Google Fiber, 2016). As mentioned earlier, this is one of the fastest internet connections available to customers. Other competitors within the market offer between 10 Mbit/s and 100 Mbit/s. In translates to 100 and 10 times higher than other competitors respectively. Therefore, customers have faster video buffering, video streaming, file download speeds, better online gaming, as well as shorter webpage loading and refresh times. The company provides these speeds for both user uploads and downloads. The speed offered by the company implies that one would require 2 seconds in order to download a 2GB file.

In terms of pricing and costs, Google offers customers three different price packages depending on their needs and wants. The first is the internet gigabit connection that includes a cable television connection. The company offers this service at the price of $130/month (Google Fiber, 2016). The second package is the gigabit internet connection only that does not include a cable television connection. The company offers this service at the price of $70/month (Google Fiber, 2016). The third service is the basic internet connection. The speeds offered under this services are much lower but decent at 10 Mbit/s. The cost per month for this service is $0/month; however, there is an initial set up charge of $ 300. After the initial set up cost is paid, the customer receives free basic internet for up to seven years (Google Fiber, 2016)

The DSL and cable modem researched is highly reliable. This is mainly because it offers the fastest internet speeds of up to 1,000 Mbit/s. In addition, the speeds offered are steady and do not fluctuate over time. This implies that the ISP provides users with an excellent internet connection for video streaming, file sharing, downloading information, uploading information, browsing and online gaming. Furthermore, the company provides 100% internet access availability at all times with low down time for customers. This translates to excellent and uninterrupted services for the customer.
Recommend DSL or cable modem based on the previous comparison and evaluation of services available closest to your region. Explain your recommendation.
Based on the previous comparison and evaluation of services available closest to my region, Google fiber is highly recommended. The main reason behind this recommendation is that it is reasonably priced for the speeds offered. Paying $70 per month for a gigabyte internet connection is very fair. I also recommend the service since customers have the chance to choose between different packages tailored by the company to meet different consumer needs. One can choose having an internet connection with or without television services from the company. One can also choose having a basic internet connection that only attracts an initial set up cost. This makes Google fiber highly affordable as compared to other DSL or cable modem services offered.
