Introduction:
Freedom to the colonists referred to the situation where they can control themselves as a country and be liberated from the high taxes they were paying to the British government. They felt that the taxes they were paying were very high, and the king was misusing their funds. The colonists, therefore, never wanted to pay such taxes to support the British government in the war. The colonists also felt that the king was very tyrannical, thereby, the need to lead their own countries.
In my opinion, the colonists were expressing their opinions as completely different from the English People. This is shown by the rebellion where they wanted to rule their own countries so as to be free from the tyrannical leadership of the Britain kingdom.
The factors that shaped the colonists' idea of freedom includes governing themselves and being an independent nation. The high taxes also contributed to the fight for freedom by the colonists.
The other motivation for independence in America was the need for representation in the parliament. They wanted their elected members to represent them in the parliament. The colonists wanted representation in order to have a say in the British government. The pressure of unemployment in America also led to a rebellion against the British. The rising demand for jobs in America was not given attention by the British government. This, therefore, made the Americans to demand representation in the parliament. The aspects relating to demographic diversities in the American colonies are well elaborated. The diversity of colonial experiences is also clearly brought out with respect to slavery and diseases which affected the population. The aspects relating to trade and taxes, as well as religious freedom, were also given emphasis in the readings.
