The documentary speaks about the Renaissance. Renaissance is a French word that translates to "rebirth". This refers to the period in the civilization of Europe that follows the middle ages. This period is famous for its interest growth in classical learning techniques and values, especially of Rome and ancient Greece. Renaissance is also the time within which continent discoveries were made and later led to their exploration. The astronomy system also changed to the Ptolemaic astronomy system from the ancient Copernican system. Other aspects that improved include the growth of businesses and important human interventions like paper and gunpowder. Also, there was an incredible advancement of literature, philosophy, and art. It is documented that in the 14th and 15th centuries, a style of art that is associated with Renaissance occurred within Italy and proceeded to Zenith in the 16th century (Zilli).
Artists and scholars from Italy regarded themselves to be up to speed with the classical Roman culture achievements and ideals. Renaissance art was viewed by many as a pride of ancient ways and went on to use it as a foundation of what is referred to as Classical antiquity. The paintings seemed to have depth because they were painted in a way that showed distinct differences through perspective and attention to detail by the artists. The pioneers of early Renaissance art were people like the sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti, Filippo Brunelleschi, and Donatello. Lorenzo’s masterpieces were so good that he ended up being awarded a tender to design new bronze doors for a cathedral (Zilli).
Some argue that Renaissance was an attempt by intellectuals to examine and improve the worldly things through the resurrection of ideas. Scholars such as Rodney Stark believe that Renaissance was given credit that it did not deserve and says earlier innovations of the Italian city during the 12th century is what led to capitalism.
