A horoscope is termed as the prediction of an individual’s future, to include descriptions of character and events for a certain period of time (Merriam-Webster: Horoscope). It is based on the position of the planets and the sun, along with the knowledge of the individual’s zodiac sign. There are twelve Zodiac signs or profiles, and one’s Zodiac sign is taken based on one’s date of birth. These signs are distinct from one another, and each has its own characteristics, traits, strengths and weakness. For instance, a person falling under the Zodiac sign of Capricorn (born from December 22 – January 19), is said to be responsible, disciplined, possesses self-control and good manners. He is also devoted to the ideas of family, tradition and work perfection. However, he also can be unforgiving, condescending and sometimes he can be a prophet of doom (Astrology.com: Capricorn Traits).
Thus the prediction of the horoscope for the day or for a certain period of time is based on one’s Zodiac sign and what is written on an astrological chart showing the relative positions of the heavenly bodies. The astrologer, once having the Zodiac sign, then makes use of the astrological chart in order to write his or her interpretations of what he or she has seen in the chart under that particular Zodiac sign in order to come up with the prediction. The predictions and interpretations can not only tell the future, but they also are able to predict which individuals (classified per their Zodiac sign) are compatible or incompatible with one another. It is quite amazing how a number of individuals still follow the predictions and prescriptions of the horoscope. In many newspapers today, one can still see a column on the daily horoscope. Its popularity apparently has not waned even in present times.
