Scholarly Personal Narrative Writing
Introduction
Taking a view of the recent history, one cannot but encounter the fact that the profitable relationship between media and terrorism appeared to come to normal. Analyzing some of the most remarkable acts of terror, it becomes apparent that media use appears an integral part of the operation efficiency; to cut a long story short, in order to conduct the successful terrorist attacks, the gang leader needs to take into account the significance of media support attracting attention of the public and the authorities.
Media Objectives
One of the most characteristic features of modern world, together with globalization, is the huge and, actually, endless amount of information. It surrounds people everywhere starting from the advertising in the streets and finishing with the news in Internet. Speaking about the tools that influence the consciousness of the humans, it is necessary to be aware of the fact that media is not the last thing that provides this impact. Concerning the definition of this notion, it is necessary to state that it is a specific group constructing different messages with embedded values, and that addresses these messages to a certain portion of public to get required results.
One should remember that contemporary media often undergoes dramatic changes within the scope of media content due to politically committed media holders. Consequently, the process of shaping media content acquires the signs of opacity and covert lie. All in all, apart from more or less acceptable media disinformation that occurs as the ordinary standard of the ongoing media technologies aimed at reaching the public by the communication, the shift of focus from the principle of humanness to mercenary negotiations with terroristic organization passes all bounds. The thing is the owners of media technologies do not have a moral right to have any kind of relationships with the terrorism. Regardless of this fact, it is possible to observe the broadcasting of terroristic videotapes on TV channels; the problem is that the ways how these videotapes containing the interviews and various terrorists’ appeals to the public are far from lawful.
As a result, it is worth saying that the current relationship between the media and terroristic organizations are to be reinterpreted; moreover, the time to take some measures in order to eradicate the signs of media and terrorism working in tandem has come.
Relationship under Disguise
At first sight, it can seem that terrorism has nothing to do with mass media; notwithstanding this fact, it is worth saying that the relationship actually exists. In order to prove this argument, it is possible to mention the terroristic attack that happened on September 11, 2001. The thing is that this tragic occasion has resulted in many 9/11 victims. Even though time has passed, the consequences of this catastrophe are still grave. Legion of people ended up with health problems. Moreover, there are many people suffering from asthma, chronic infections, and other respiratory illnesses. However, apart from a number of casualties, it is worth making mention of the fact that this act of terror was accompanied by the videotapes with appeals by Ben Laden, the founder of Al-Qaeda, claiming responsibility for 9/11. The point is that mass media emerged as a tool of propaganda. Obviously, the relationship between mass media and the terroristic organizations is based on mutual benefit, since on the one hand, mass media are likely to increase its ratings due to flashy news and, on the other, particular terroristic organization obtains necessary circulation. As a result, it results in accumulation of strength because the public becomes aware of the forthcoming acts of terror that the terroristic organizations decided to conduct. Inevitably, this very act terror gives the chance to see all the depth of the benefits that both mass media and terrorists appear to be endowed with.
Conclusion
Indisputably, terrorism occurs as quite attractive attribute for the media, since the acts of terrors emerge to raise the viewer ratings. To be more precise, as for the terrorism, it has a variety of special features making this branch of military confrontation an attractive element for the media. The thing is that terrorism encloses such important components as drama, danger, bloodshed, etc, which are potentially to shower the media centre with money.
Speaking about terrorism, it is necessary to make mention that its violent acts are aimed at impacting the governments as well as civilians. As for the media, it is considered as the obligatory mechanism of globalizing the message of the terrorists.
