The story of John Woolman in the Chapter ‘The Role of Social Entrepreneur’, from ‘How to Change the World’, by David Bernstein made me think the most, because he focused on eliminating an important issue of slavery from the society. He travelled by foot in order to experience the feelings and conditions of slaves who are subject to harsh treatment. He tried his best to convince Quakers to abolish slavery, and consider it as an illegal act. Woolman was, however, concerned about the rights of slaves, and wanted them to live as an independent being who can freely earn their livelihood.
In my opinion, social entrepreneurship idea that can change the world is providing employment and skills training. The main objective of this training is to ensure provision of living wages, development of skills, and training in accordance with the job requirements to beneficiaries. It is because; there is a need of making people capable of doing the jobs in organizations. Nowadays, universities are producing graduates, but as a matter of fact, these graduates are skilled enough to accomplish the tasks in accordance with the job requirements of an organization. There is a mismatch between skills of individuals and requirements of organizations. The idea of employment and skills training helps in reducing this gap, and pave the way to production of individuals who fit to the demands of companies. This will lead to bringing significant change in the world, as skilled employees contribute largely to productivity of organizations, and ultimately to the productivity of the country, that helps in ensuring growth of economy.
