Explain the impact of knowledge workers on the requirement for creating a high performance work system.
Knowledge management is the process that transforms workers knowledge into organizational knowledge. The essay explains how workers knowledge through creating, accumulating, and utilizing of the information can create a high-performance work system. Workers knowledge is the most important factor of production because competitors do not easily copy it. Knowledge management facilitates workers adaptability and enables them to become more flexible in their duties; this makes the workers adapt to change easily, and the interaction among the workforce improves. Thus, knowledge management among the workers will improve the performance of the work system since it influences the employee job satisfaction.
The sharing of information among workers will reduce workers’ turnover rate therefore positively affecting the performance of the work system, revenue, and profits. Besides, knowledge management provides workers with solutions to the day-to-day problems they face while on duty. Addressing the problems that workers face amplifies their effectiveness in carrying out their job and motivates employees (Fuller, 2002.)
Another way that Knowledge management enhances the performance of the work system is through positively influencing the functional units of the organization such as marketing, manufacturing, and public relations. The sharing of information among workers leads them to select the most suitable decisions and best practice to use in their duties. The knowledge sharing among workers facilitates the frequent brainstorming that enhances process innovation and exploitation of new ideas, which can improve the performance of the work system. These ideas are exchanged in organizations that have employed the knowledge management. The use of knowledge management demonstrates intellectual leadership in the work system that in turn enhances customer loyalty giving the organization a competitive advantage (Fuller, 2002.)
