Introduction
There have been numerous instances where companies have covered up various problems in their companies especially with their employees. Probably some of the most basic causes of downfalls of companies is distressed employees. With the following paper, we are going to investigate some of the problems employees face.
Literature review
In many occasions, the biggest problem that employees face while in organization is poor communication with superiors. Their mentors could be in the same organization but poor communication will result to poor engagement and this will lead to poor productivity of workers (Cisco, 2007).
Another problem could be long hours of work which cause burnout of employees. Burnout is defined as the exhaustion of jobs that results to employees becoming cynical about their job and question their ability to perform. Burnout results to a number of things; absenteeism and high turnovers(Maslach& Leiter, 2008), (Snell, 2009).
Description of data and methods
The study was conducted among three students in my class who worked in Blow Plast Limited in Kenya as interns. The company is involved in manufacture of plastics and the three were in different departments; manufacturing, human resource and procurement. They interacted with older members of the organization and were subjected to some of the problems for a period of three months, enough time for them to fully understand the problems in the organization. They provided a lot of insight into some of the problems that other employees in other organizations can relate to.
The study was conducted as an interview of the tree students separately face to face and a total of 30 questions were asked for each. The data was entered as notes to be used in making conclusions on the most common problems faced by employees. They were also asked to fill in 10-question questionnaire to confirm the results.
Results
The results showed that the biggest problem employees had was communication (Cisco, 2007)with the upper management. The three noted that the communication methods were not put in place for any kind of interaction with the upper management. By doing so, the employees did not raise intricate issues that affected them.
Another problem was long hours of work(Snell, 2009). The interns usually were required to have arrived at their workstations by 7.00 a.m. and left as late as 7.00 p.m. with meagre pays to cater for their food, transport and other needs that they had to cater for themselves.
Quotes
The guiding quote that showed the problems were serious was “the problem with that company is that it has too many problems”. This was the quote that was used by two of the three interns I interviewed. That guiding quote was enough to show just how serious the problems were.
Interpretation of quotes
The quote seemed to show just how serious the problems were. In a company where the employees seem to come up to the same conclusion with almost perfectly synchronized views, it is easy for one to see that these problems need to be addressed fully and quickly to ensure full employee cooperation.
Discussion and conclusion
So in summary, for any company including Blow Plast Limited, addressing these issues to ensure that the productivity is boosted is vital in ensuring that the work that they do is to the best of their ability.
