Guillam, is under stress when talking to his lover Camilla because he has been covertly stealing materials from the secret service and since he got to his lover`s apartment there have been outside like surveillance with multiple individuals passing outside the flat consecutively, which was more like they were watching him. It was the cause of his stress; he might have been thinking that he was compromised and that his acts of stealing materials have been found out. The behavior that he conveys is that he is anxious and paranoid that he is constantly in danger of being killed for his betrayal of the secret service this is shown in his behavior of pushing away those that love him like his lover Camilla. Emotionally, he is not truthful with his feeling towards Camilla and he does not trust that she loves him because he is being watched in her flat. That means, either she is not truthful or the secret service is onto him. Either way he is pushing away the emotional attachment that is presented to him for fear that he might die or those he love might come to harm.
Question 2
Institutionalization here brings the issue that to be a spy there is a constant need for success in every endeavor and failure is not an option. It affects how fast one thinks and what he has to do in order to be successful in this mission Guillam uses a phone call which was used to extract the files for retrieval. The fake phone call was used to get the bag in the cubes so that he could change the files and replace them with the dummies. This creativity is a way to deceive the housekeepers and develop a conversation that cannot in any way raise suspicion. Spy life is phony as it involves lying and strategic deceiving of others, manipulating them into lowering their guard in order to succeed in stealing or obtaining the information the spy requires. The interaction shows that authenticity is an important strategic gain over the person a spy is stealing information from this requires confidence and calmness that is important to convince the person from whom the information is being stolen from that the act is authentic.

The character and behavior of Karla is portrayed to be a diehard since he is offered a chance to join smiley when he was caught in India, but he refused. It shows that loyalty is the cornerstone on which spy`s set their lives upon. If this is betrayed then the individual is considered a defect and can be killed. Another instant is that Karla is not moved by anything this is seen when the girl he marries kills herself when he was taken to Siberia. It shows that he is not easy to convince and that he can undergo through anything and still come out as he was initially. It is seen when he does not want to go with a smiley and opts out of that offer and is even ready to go and face the gun, which threatens his life on a very minor issue. He is cold blooded and calculating and he looks for any weakness that he can manipulate so that he can achieve what he wants for himself.
