In today’s stressful life, seeing people smile for no reason is so pleasant. It’s just like a surprise freebie after spending a bomb on shopping. Good humored people are always in demand. Their smile in the unhappy situations of life makes things seem so light. The usual intent to tell a joke is to make people laugh. Jokes may or may not be verbal; they can be practical jokes or just some puns. They might make use of similes to add to humor, like a person once said “my girlfriend is like an okay movie, but I can’t see it again.”I have been through situations that have been negative for me. But I learnt to move on and tackle the grim situation with humor and a smile on my face. I turned the whole situation into a big joke that happened to me and told others about it whenever I wanted to cheer them up.
1. The most devastating experience for me was my first day at the swimming class. I have water phobia but on being insisted by my teacher I joined swimming in school. Other kids younger than me were diving and jumping and I couldn’t move a leg in water. I went through a lot of emotional turmoil and pain. But time healed everything. 2. The second experience was when I was ragged by my seniors when I changed my school. Some seniors told me to propose to a young lady sitting in our school cafeteria. I was hesitant but had no other option. I sheepishly went to the lady and proposed to her. There was no response, I repeated but she was silent. Soon I realized she was a student of the physically challenged wing of our school; she was deaf and dumb. I felt so sorry and left the place at once. Distrust and hatred filled me for years after the incident. 3. The third incident is about my failure to become a professional painter. I was very passionate about painting but somehow my work never got noticed and appreciated. In fact, many rejected it as a work of some novice.
How I turned the three situations into a joke is very important.1. When my friend who was scared of water tried to learn swimming, I told him, “there is no harm in going inside water, it’s the best place to pee.” My friend George still smiles whenever he gets in a pool.2.Even today I go to Betty, one of my best friends and tell her in sign language that she is my first crush. She smiles and winks at me and tells me in her sign language that we will make a perfect couple as she will never crib and bore me by her girl talk. It’s funny and ironical at the same time. 3. The artist in me was never at rest I painted whenever I was happy, sad, excited, etc. Somehow I managed entry into the school exhibition. Five of my paintings were to be displayed for buyers. I saw most of the paintings getting sold by admirers; nobody asked for my work. A young lady was looking at my paintings. On seeing my work, she had strange expressions on her face as if she had seen some play class coloring. At once I struck the red dot on my paintings and exclaimed with joy, “Oh these are taken, sorry ma’am.” Well, on getting home I broke into laughter, as I was the best admirer of my paintings. Life is all about finding happiness in the unhappy situation.
