What makes a blog successful and what made Julie’s blog so outstanding? In general, a blog is intended for a group of people sharing some common thoughts, interests, hobbies, ideas, ideals, etc.
Each blog focuses upon a certain topic or theme. It is its core element and it should be catching, inviting and entertaining. Here Julie did not miscalculate, because food and cooking is what people cannot live without and face every single day. However, French cuisine is very special, fancy and delicate and spices ordinary everyday life. Undoubtedly, she made a very successful and productive choice.
Blog is characterized by constant renewal. When a blogger leaves his/her fans without news or thematic information he/she loses the audience and popularity. Blog cannot be abandoned and demands permanent attention from its creator. As it was mentioned in the movie itself, a blog does not need to be published, as people get a free and immediate access to your writings which are posted on the Internet. Many blogs resemble an online diary, describing personal experience, emotions and feelings. Another type is an informative blog, where a knowledgeable blogger puts different kinds of interesting information relating to a particular theme.
Julie invented her unique type of a blog, where she shared her cooking experience and results of her cooking experiments. She also revealed her personal feelings and confessions. However, there was another trump card up her sleeve, namely, Julie Powell was a writer and she had enough talent to write her posts in order to make her audience broil with impatience and aflame of curiosity. Nevertheless, what made her blog the one of a kind and, as a result, distinguished is her daring experiment. She threw out a challenge to cook 524 recipes for 365 days. Her goal was to achieve this success simply online, in her fans’ sight. Such challenge whetted the appetite of the followers of Julie’s blog and that was her key to success. Julie let people “observe” her reaching the goal and live through the whole experimental year hand in hand with her. The fans rooted for Julie greatly and supported her. She encountered a lot of difficulties with cooking as well as with her personal life, but she knew that she could not refuse to complete her experiment or deceive her fans. Julie did not want to have a failure and lead her blog to naught. She did her best and she managed.
After starting watching the movie, the first thought that comes to mind is how such 2 different personalities can be even compared? These two women live at different times, have different environments and different personalities, as Julia is more exuberant, dreamy and romantic, and Julie is realistic, if not even pessimistic. However, at the end of the film, it becomes absolutely clear that despite the fact that they have only one thing in common, namely, cooking, they are very much similar. They were equally persistent in pursuing their goals and they knew what they wanted and firmly went forward to what was their destination. Moreover, Julie as well as Julia devoted themselves to their true vocation, to what they really loved to do, and that helped them to meet with success. As a result, both of them achieved their goals. Julie even became an example for everybody and inspired many people to change something in their lives if they are unsatisfied and unhappy and, moreover, she proved that despite all distractions and difficulties she managed to accomplish her challenge.
Another factor played a significant role in the success of Julie and Julia. They were never alone. They felt a great support and strength from their beloved husbands who truly shared their interests, ambitions and endeavours, followed them through hardships and led them to success.
