The most fundamental aim of moral philosophy is the seeking out of the foundational principles that guide the metaphysics of morals. Among the three propositions that were argued by Kant were inclusive in gaining better knowledge of morality and principles behind it. Theoretical thought of morality had several requirements that were central to understanding. Fundamentally the three include the use of common sense that is the first through observation. Common sense is a distinguishing factor that determines several parameters like when an individual acts against duty, wen actions are based on the fulfillment of duty but lack motivation and finally one who acts within the confines of duty and is motivated by duty.
The second proposition simply indicates that an actions maxim is driven through its own volition. This simple yet critical proposition was based on the focus that the morality of an act is dependent on the principles that are used in the execution of the act but not on the consequences that may arise or its intentions. This two propositions formed the aggregate that Kant used to base his third proposition that considered the notions of common sense of duty as it asserts that action necessitates duty that stems from respect to law.
According to Kantian theory, the primary principle is only justifiable when it posses the form of a categorical imperative. Kant ascertains that the core tenet of moral duty is categorical imperatives. This is viewed as such as once it becomes a categorical imperative, it, therefore, becomes a command. Such commands are unconditional, and their execution is fully met out. Morality according to Kant is therefore as a basis through which categorical imperatives can be applied as one is driven by morality as it commands him/her to act in a certain manner ad one is not free from working as commanded by one’s morality. On application one perceives that action should be based on a maxim that one can assert will become a universal law. On the application of categorical imperatives, it follows a procedure from maxims, to use of basic ideas and provision of more details.
However, use of personal principle to justify actions is considered a plus in that final actions will be based on certain principles that apply to an individual and not merely as a means to an end. Maxims that consider universalization are important as they provide as their rational actions lead to measures that act as a means to an end. The three links all have a means to an end though none is clear on the most effective proposition as various stages have to be followed for the attainment of action thus either proposition is a cause of argument.
