Leadership and communication are inseparable concepts because of their importance – a leader has to have highly developed communication skills in order to establish good relations with the staff. The ability to deal with various people easily is very valuable nowadays, as more and more people prefer working with open-minded individualities instead of teaching shy and insecure persons. This way, it is important to learn how to use the principles of effective leadership in order to satisfy the audience.
Leadership skills include the ability to create reasonable conditions for subordinates and the management of their actions along with the inspiration to be engaged in the vision of successful future. Following emotional intelligence at workplaces is essential if trying to learn the principles of effective leadership (Rosete, Ciarrochi, 2005). Being a leader does not mean to have great communication skills, though. Some leaders neglect their duties of inspiring their subordinates and giving them the guides of working. This is why it is extremely important to acquire well-developed communication skills.
The case of improper implementation of leader power happened in one public relations firm, where Ben Williams is the CEO. He does not consider his duties to be important, although they should be valued in such a way. He neglects the necessity to take into considerations all the technical improvements, which are for optimization of the working process. The man takes no care of his subordinates by making them obey him because of the status, not because of the attitude he expresses to them. For example, he gives them no information about new projects before implementing them into use, so people have no time to learn more about new parts of work. Ben Williams expresses no sympathy or understanding towards people`s needs – he just ignores issues of improper establishment of the firm policy.
The man surely has to change the approach to his employees – he should pay attention to their daily work, not only when it comes to problems or corporate changes. This means, that he is better to learn how to use properly the most important key to leadership success – communication. According to Froschheiser, the essential thing in workplace management is the ability to focus on the business fundamentals along with mentioning the emotional segment – praise and benefits for employees change their regard to the whole working process (Froschheiser). Having analyzed the scenario, it seems that the CEO of the firm is not well-informed and, what is more, does not want to be informed about the corporate state and doing business – he is interested only in profits and self-benefits.
One may achieve leadership success if he forgets about selfishness and insouciance – instead, seeks to be involved in the firm`s life fully and leave no one without his care. Only being dedicated to the working process, Ben Williams is likely to avoid issues about his improper business doing. Nonverbal communication and friendliness can improve the situation and coerce the employees to listen to their leader and follow his instructions. Open stance and good tone will change the bad boss into an approachable person, who does care about each aspect of the work.
If Ben Williams is attentive, he may notice some important signals, which his subordinates send to him – nonverbal actions convey the person`s condition and feeling. Honest and open face-to-face communication with coworkers can make people feel more relaxed and appreciated. This way, the thought of being a good psychologist when trying to be a successful leader is not so strange, as one should pay a lot of attention towards his coworkers in order to provide comfortable atmosphere for the working process.
However, there are some cases, when successful leaders, who are liked by their subordinates, lose their positions because of their poor judgment. Some employees may think of them as weak and invertebrate people. In such situations, they antagonize their coworkers to act meanly in order to overthrow the bosses and achieve some self-benefits. This way, it is essential for leaders to notice all the details in their subordinates` behavior and be diligent in their decisions. For instance, Ben Williams should not change his behavior totally – just in some aspects. Otherwise, his coworkers may find the breach in the man`s character and disobey him in order to attain some freedom in actions.
Personal factors, which influence the approach of individuals towards management, are extremely important if identifying the ways to improve the working process or bring some changes to it. Depending on the personality type and circumstances, a list of advice in one case may be helpful at the time, when in the other they may be the beginning of a corporate stir (Taylor, 2016).
Leadership may get the best out of people, so Ben Williams can be the victim of business. With modern approach to technologies and their wide use there is no time to relax or bring some changes to people`s brains, as they are all busy with their work. There is a great possibility that the man has fallen under circumstances and does not take care of others, as he has received no help for himself in time.
Anyway, there are a lot of reasons of Ben Williams` attitude towards his coworkers. This problem may be solved if paying more attention to individualities instead of taking total control over them for achieving business benefits. The man surely needs to think over his actions and change the way he communicates.
