Leadership is undoubtedly a highly complex issue one of which indispensable parts is motivation. The experts of Management Study Guide claim that motivation “is a goal-oriented characteristic that helps a person achieve his objectives” (MSG Experts, n.d.), thus ensuring that it is a determinative component of success. Being self-aware of one's strengths and weaknesses is another aspect which a leader has to possess. Thereby this essay will focus on analyzing and interpreting leadership motivation assessment and ensuring the plan for further self-development.
The results of my test showed the total score of 48 points which, as its reinterpretation goes, “implies some uncertainty about your motivation to lead” (Mind Tools Editorial Team, n.d.). It must be noted that the results are not really satisfactory to me as I would like to position myself as a motivational leader in future. Therefore I definitely need to reconsider particular aspects of my attitudes and behaviors.
Basing my judgments on the conducted test, I consider dealing with the conflict and generating ideas as my weaknesses. Thereby enhancing these capacities are the central in my development plan. For instance, the best way to develop conflict management skills would be to practice remaining alert and calm during a stressful situation, control my emotions and behavior, pay attention to the feelings of mine and others which are expressed, and be respectful of the differences (Segal et al., 2016).
Meanwhile, a great level of commitment into the project's work, as well as friendliness and cooperation within the team are my strongest points. “I take delight in complimenting the people I work with”, “I find it easy to be a cheerleader for others” (Mind Tools Editorial Team, n.d.) are what truly defines me as a personality.
Finally, I am sure that leadership motivation by no means comes together with the work which seems meaningful and purposeful to the leader: as it is claimed, “great leaders know that people are intrinsically motivated when they understand why they are doing something, and the best leaders put the correct conditions in place to ensure people gain this deeper connection” (Loder, 2015). Therefore another necessary aspect in my developing would be defining m own vision which I would have a great amount of passion to lead to.
