The video clip talks about cross-cultural differences in children’s emotional reactions to a disappointing situation. The respondents are four to seven years old, Chinese American and European American children.. In terms of ethnicity and age, results show that European-American children and older children demonstrated more positive behaviors than Chinese American children and younger children, respectively. Younger children also demonstrated more negative behaviors than older children. As for gender, boys demonstrated more negative behaviors than girls and in which European American children demonstrate more total expressive behaviors than Chinese American children (Garrett-Peters and Fox 1).
I discovered that there is a significant difference with diverse culture, age, gender and ethnicity in terms of disappointing situation. These discoveries can greatly influence future professional/personal practices with children since emotional aspects of children are very essential. With this, educators should be careful in attending cross cultural students. They should apply varied approaches with this situation depending on age, gender, and culture. At least then, educators can be more sensitive in handling this situation.
I also appreciate the methodology part wherein students can freely choose the reward they want if they can do the activity. I wanted to do that in my class someday.
