Barr, James. A Line in the Sand. London: Simon & Schuster, 2012. Print.
James Barr is an experienced journalist in the field of politics, severally traversing the Middle East and Arab countries in Europe and Africa. He has several other books on the politics of Arab countries such as “The Secret War in Arabia”. In this book, Barr discusses the short rule of European powers in the middle-east and what led to their establishment of the rule. He also alludes to the occurrences leading to the French-British war of 1941 and the beginning of Arab-Jews hostility in 1948. The information in this book, drawn from various original documents obtained by Barr are essential in describing how the Sykes-Picot Agreement colonization led to the formation of Israel.
Culcasi, Karen. "Disordered Ordering: Mapping the Divisions of the Ottoman Empire". Cartographica: The International Journal for Geographic Information and Geovisualization 49.1 (2014): 2-17. Web.
This article by Karen Culcasi, an associate professor of geography at West Virginia University, describes the fragmentation of the Ottoman Empire after which several fragments of the Middle East were acquired by British and French kingdoms. This peer-reviewed paper describes how faulty mapping was used to parcel the Ottoman Empire. The paper shows how the seven British archival map which were interconnected despite being disordered were employed in the Sykes-Picot Agreement and the consequential fragmentation of the region. The maps and their utilization in this study will form a good basis of how the Ottoman Empire was subdivided and eventually the formation of the Israel country.
Varnava, A. "The Politics and Imperialism of Colonial and Foreign Volunteer Legions during the Great War: Comparing Proposals for Cypriot, Armenian, and Jewish Legions". The War in History 22.3 (2015): 344-363. Web. 20 Mar. 2016.
This paper by Andrekos Vernava, a distinguished scholar in the field of political science, examines the political and military reasons that guided the British in their acceptance of volunteer legions during the First World War only to later accept some of them later. The author details how the British initially, rejected Compatriot, Armenian and Jewish regions to controversially accept them later after agreeing to the Sykes-Picot Agreement. The fact that the British people only accepted the offer of Jewish Legion when they became interested in Palestine raises the question of whether the agreement to have Jewish region fight for them was a way to pay for a land in the Middle East. This article brings a fresh angle to the argument that parties involved in the Sykes-Picot Agreement were involved in the formation of Israel in a region that for decades was dominated by Arabs.
