Iago narrated to Othello that while Cassio and him were sleeping, Cassio started sleep talking and started calling Desdemona’s name. Cassio began kissing and caressing Iago, imagining that Iago is Desdemona. One thinks that the story of Iago is quite believable considering that Othello is beginning to doubt Desdemona’s fidelity already. Furthermore, Iago had to remind Othello that Cassio served as a go-between between Othello and Desdemona during their courtship. Iago also told Othello that the handkerchief he gave to Desdemona is now with Cassio because he witnessed Desdemona wiping Cassio’s beard with the handkerchief. Othello is convinced about Desdemona’s infidelity because she has been persuading Othello to reinstate Cassio again to be his lieutenant, which further increased Othello’s suspicion.
2. At the play's climax in the third scene, what is the pact that Othello and Iago make? In what ways do Othello and Iago begin to resemble one another?
The pact that Othello and Iago made is that they will take revenge on Desdemona and Cassio. Iago promised to help Othello in executing his plan. Othello and Iago begin to resemble each other because they are both consumed by jealousy. Othello was feeling jealous of Desdemona while Iago felt jealousy over Cassio. Another way that Othello and Iago resemble each other is that they are in the same situation now. Iago also thinks that Othello has slept with Emilia but like Othello, he does not have sufficient evidence.
