In essence, the report shows that Georgia's criminal justice system is facing various finance issues. Many people are in a trial, and a lot of finances have, therefore, been put aside for the development of the prison system. In other words, the huge budget goes to the court of law, public defenders, district prosecutors, and the attorney general (Bluestein, 2016). Primarily, this has brought numerous challenges as the state has to keep up with these expenses. Notably, I chose this article because I am passionate about development. In this regard, if a massive amount of funds are allocated to the criminal justice system, it means that we have less for development. I believe that this needs to change.
The writer is in total agreement that there is a major crisis in the current budgeting in Georgia's criminal justice. Conversely, the creation of statewide systems of accountability courts can remedy the crisis (Bluestein, 2016). There should be an increased accountability courts while general standards and the evaluation system should be implemented to ensure the improvement of public safety by the effectiveness of the Accountable courts. In fact, many accountability courts are operating currently, although some areas in the country do not have accountability systems.
My Conclusion and Recommendation
I am in total agreement that there is a significant issue in budgeting in the criminal justice system of the state. On the other hand, all hope is not lost, and a few measures can be taken to remedy the current situation (Andrews & Bonta, 2010). The primary cause of the problem is the lack of resources for community intervention, especially in abuse of substance and mental health services. Consequently, there is a minimal chance to announce a non-prison sentence. In this case, there should be an immediate expansion of the resources to support such offenders by referring them to the centers. The move offers programming options and efficient treatment.
