Introduction
America may the world’s most economically endowed nation and powerful political force, but it has the gravest of issues when it comes to health concerns. The country has a population that is grossly affected with obesity and is threatened by a future where a substantially high number of people will be obese. The underlying issue is that the country has not fully concerned itself with the issues that affect society because the priorities that exist are centered on capitalism and economic expansion. The lack of interest thereof or awareness of the issues that affect the people leads adverse health, environmental problems and facilitates things that are against nature itself.
The United States is undeniably among the most health unconscious states in the world. Often, it has been dubbed as a fast food nation, where people continue to intake food that is harmful to them and leads to things such as obesity. The fast food business is among the top five sources of revenue for the government, which clearly indicates that the business is booming. The unhealthy foods are served in some schools and are among the most affordable of meals in the USA. As a result, the country has a population that is full of obese adults and children, and the numbers are expertly predicted to go even higher by 2050. The health issue of obesity has given rise to a number of recurrent diseases such as hypertension and high blood pressure. The situation is sadder when teenagers and young children are subjected to the condition through the unhealthiness of their diets and the lifestyles that they are forced to live. In fact, obesity is headed towards becoming one of the most serious issues that the USA has faced since it affects the economy in a major way (Van, 57-59).
The United States government may not, to a certain degree, be aware of the looming trouble, which is evidenced by the lack of appropriate responses towards the situation. More fast food joints are opening up, and the government continues to enjoy the incentives that are afforded through such business ventures. In addition, healthy food remains expensive for the public, and it is left with no alternative than to indulge in the cheaper options. A healthy lifestyle is seen as something that only the rich people can afford because of the time and money that it involves. The United States has failed to put adequate measures that would facilitate the healthy lifestyles of its subjects at all levels. Because of the recognizable lack of awareness of the seriousness of the situation, more people are becoming obese (Tang, Yijie, Zhen Li, and George, 139-142). Obesity is against the human nature which is centered on a healthiness and freedom. Obesity limits the freedom that the human nature can exercise and cripples somebody in the sense that it hinders movement, interactions in the society and limits their happiness. When the government becomes aware of the issue from an in-depth point of view, then they can be better placed to tackle it. Every year, the USA government spends millions of dollars on buying medicine and facilitating good health plans that are ideal for obese people (Van, 54-58). However, if it eliminated the root of the problem, the government could save the very money that it is making from unhealthy foods, perpetrated by the availability of fast foods. The problem does seem minute because of the numbers that it affects as compared to the whole population, but the big picture presents a national crisis.
Often, the government being unconscious of real problems in the USA has led to not only health issues, but also environmental concerns. The underlying issue is that the government waits for an issue to become big before it is properly tackled. Being unaware of the problem is causing the country healthy people, an excellent environment and goes against the fundamentals of nature. The environment continues to suffer from degradation that is caused by industries and a bad transportation network. The issue remains unsolved as the environment becomes more polluted. Unsafe environment results in more healthy concerns that will incur a lot of costs to tackle. In addition, the rules of nature facilitate a clean environment that is full of healthy human beings (Van, 62-68). The lack of proper address of such issues leads to a defilement of the laws of nature and presents problems that are even bigger in scope. Nature facilitates that people should be healthy and the only method to significantly achieve that is through the advocating a proper health regime that is mandatory and affordable for all the citizens of the United States (Tang, Yijie, Zhen Li, and George, 139-142).
Currently, there have not been any tangible efforts towards the combating of obesity. All that the government does is fuelled towards medical plans and money that is spent on drugs. The statistics show that at least three out of every ten people in the USA are obese, and there are possibilities of even bigger numbers in the future. Additionally, the majorities of children suffer from the condition and will likely grow up with it. That would lead to even greater numbers because of the lack of health consciousness in lifestyles.
Conclusion
If the USA were aware of such problems from an in-depth perspective, it would help to solve future issues that are accrued to health and the environment. The government has massive duties to its citizens that go beyond economic nourishment. It should, therefore, try to solve health issues for a root basis point of view, where the cause is cut off.
