Mainstream media has faced adverse challenges since the invention of mass media, with its leading challenge being administration. Recent times have, however, seen the various media outlets including print, broadcast and electronic media at war with each other. This is a war that could see major changes in the industry. This paper will discuss how this challenges affect the future of media and how the receivers of the content have influenced these changes.
The L.A. times is a leading source of all types of news from sports, current events and entertainment among others. Based in California, the L.A. times is a very profitable organization with a wide range of platforms from newspapers, television and blogs. However the worry is that people are shifting from the traditional forms of news. People aged between the ages of 20 and 25 are relying more and more on the internet for their news. The cable news, yahoo, Google and bloggers are getting a major market share of the media recipients that originally belonged to traditional media.
This is major concern since the traditional media people, especially the newspaper journalists, do all the work of finding the news. In fact, journalists dig through a lot of paperwork and records and search for the news by going to their potential sources in person. They are the primary sources of information for other forms of media. The television and the internet are also secondary consumers of the news from the newspapers. This poses a great challenge since in an attempt for these newspapers to stay in business, they are forced to fire most of their staff. This has an adverse effect on the rest of the media since they still need their input.
The daily show is a comedy that airs on Central Comedy and has large viewership. Despite the fact that the show is a comic version of the current news, most people rely on this show as a credible source of their news. The Colbert report is also another television show that, just like the daily show, uses fake news in order to disclose news to their audience.
The fact that these two shows are fake news shows, does not mean that they are entirely fake. They are based on satire and great critique of politicians and the political situation. These two shows have an impact on the real world. Jon Stewart with the daily show as well as Stephen Colbert who presents the Colbert Report are listed among the world’s most influential people by the Times magazine.
People have become more informed and educated. As a result, they are alienated from the one-sided type of news that they receive from the traditional media to embrace new media that allows them to give feedback. People are also more receptive of entertaining news that is offered by the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.
I get my news from internet, broadcast news and television shows. However, I often find myself using the internet for my news. I trust this source because it allows me to receive news as they happen and give feedback. The internet news also has no restrictions as to when I can access the news. The internet news is entertaining and gives room for entertainment.
In conclusion, various media sources are at war for a similar market share. This has resulted to a media war due to a shift in how people view news. People are more educated and as a result, they prefer more interactive platforms. The need for entertainment has seen entertainment news attract more viewership than the traditional broadcast media. The print media is less profitable including the newspapers, as compared to the other forms of media.
