Job responsibilities for medical technicians
In recent times, the role of medical technicians has become more significant in most departments of the hospital especially those that are associated with equipments ranging from latest life-saving medical equipment to dialysis equipment. At this age, high tech equipment plays an important role in medical practices and there is always a need for medical technicians to assist the physician in using and managing the equipment. The major reasons for this is simply because the technicians are always trained specially on how to use most of the equipment and the equipment is not meant to be used without the assistance of the specialist. Apart from the running of the machineries described, most medical technicians also help in organizing patient charts thereby ensuring that the records are in accurate and up to date state. Those areas or specialty that medical technicians are commonly found or specialize in are the cardiovascular, dialysis, radiology, surgical and ultrasounds.
Job requirements
Job requirements in terms of the education, training and qualification are diversified as regards to the medical technician’s requirements. A bachelor's degree is not a must for medical technicians. However, there are some that could have it which gives an edge. The required education is an associate degree from an accredited school. Interested High school students need to have coursework in sciences while the college coursework may relate to microbiology, hematology, biology, anatomy etc. depending on the area of specialization.
On the job training are usually obtained while on the job. This is usually through different conferences and continuing educational programs. Licencing and or certification are usually important for practice in different states. Hence in such states, a technician needs to be certified before practice. There is always opportunity for advancement trainings or certification on the job so as to be able to specialize in other advance fields.
What the medical technicians enjoy most about this job
One important aspect that the medical technicians tend to enjoy most relates to the fact that there are certain areas they are trained to treat the patient directly especially the emergency medical technicians (EMT) that managed highway ambulances. In such areas there is this sense of having a full control of managing patients directly by providing the required treatment protocols. For instance, in the case of emergency medical technicians, accident victims are usually stabilized before getting to the emergency unit of the hospital. Having this full knowledge and management skills always gives the feeling of having a positive impact on the dying patient.
What they enjoy least about the job
What the person enjoys least about this job is the aspect that might be enjoyed least is that which relates to the work load, especially in those facilities whereby they work round the clock. Although in such situations, there is usually shift programs, the satisfaction is usually not like the normal day working schedule period. Another aspect is that they can be on their feet for several hours which may be somewhat not easy coping with considering the associated stress. There are several other related information regarding the medical technicians work profile and schedule. For instance, the job growth for the medical technician has been estimated to be 15% in recent times. This shows that they are always demanded for in medical facilities. Salaries vary depending on the facilities, the nature of works (round the clock, shift or normal day), and area of specialization. All these factors always influence the earnings of the medical technicians.
