Technology uses & applications
Adobe Products: CAD (www.adobe.com )
What is it? How do you use it?
CAD is Computer Aided Design that turns flat static images into robust dynamic 3D graphics. CAD allows the creation and sharing of complex imaging. It allows the user to illustrate his or her design so that others have a greater understanding of its potential.
Why is it important?
CAD allows viewing the images in the free version of Adobe Reader software so that multiple people can see the images without requiring specialized programs. It allows the user to create 3D images to better illustrate the working relationship between the components such as in a new braking system for an automobile. CAD helps the receiver, whether it is the stakeholder, management, or student, to better understand and collaborate on the project.
Potential Uses?
CAD is useful for architects in designing buildings, automotive engineers in designing newer safer cars, scientists in designing lifesaving equipment or even rocket engines, or students to understand the technology concepts presented in the classroom. There is really no limit to the potential usefulness of CAD. If a design or concept can be illustrated, then CAD can be useful!
Body Scanning (TC2- Textile/Clothing Technology Corp) www.tc2.com
How does it help in shopping?
Body scanning allows the buyer to create a 3D image of his or her body so that he or she can visualize how clothing will fit without actually trying the items on. It can assist the buyer in having custom-made clothing created from anywhere in the world that will both fit and look good on the buyer!
Created in 1979 and founded in 1981, body scanning technology found its first big customers in Levi Strauss & Co. and the US Navy.

How is it used in shipping:
It creates a network that allows the companies to have greater control over their shipping by partnering with other companies so that inventories can be tracked with greater detail. Lost or late shipments cost money and in gaining a better control over shipping it allows the companies to actually save money. Inventory sitting in a warehouse costs the company money so this partnership helps solve that issue and gets inventory to the locations that need it.

RFID
What is it?
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification which is a tag that includes a microchip and an antenna. This technology allows the tracking of items or even people.
How is it used? And by who?
The RFID tag is attached to the item being tracked. This can be useful in stores to help combat theft, useful to keep track of your pet, or even useful to help track the whereabouts of a child. When attached to a product during the manufacturing process, it allows tracking its progress to completion, followed by shipping to the seller, and eventually purchase by the buyer. The possibilities for its uses are practically limitless. It is used by businesses, military, manufacturers, individuals, and anyone that has something they would like to have tracked.
What are the benefits?
The main benefit for the business is knowing where the item is at all times and setting off an alarm if the item is removed from the premises without being being properly deactivated. For the pet owner or parent the RFID tag gives peace of mind knowing your loved one can be tracked with a computer or smartphone. Manufacturers benefit by knowing where the item is in the manufacturing process at all times. Even libraries can benefit from RFID tags on library books.
