Dear Sir or Madam,
With this letter, I hereby wish to apply and state my motivation for entrance to the Masters Program in International Human Resource Management at the University of Middlesex for the 2015/2016 academic year.
With my educational background and working experience, I strongly believe that I am a suitable candidate for the program. I have chosen this University as my first choice because of your valuable scholarly resources and well-known reputation.
My interest for working with humanity relations came at a very young age. When meeting Red Cross workers that were volunteering in a kindergarten in a village called Keren in Eritrea, I came to realize that that there`s a bigger world out there and that there also career opportunities outside Norway. I speak three languages fluently; Norwegian, Tigrinya and English. Having the benefit of being multilingual gives me also the opportunity to work outside Norway.
At the age of three, I realized that having a background from East Africa made me different. I had a difficult time trying to integrate fully into the natural Norwegian culture. However, as time went on, I realized that just because I came from a different background did not mean that I could not do what my peers were doing.
When I moved to New York, I came across a society made of people from all cultures, and this is where I learned that we are all just global citizens. When people of different ethnics, religion and colors comes together in a work project and are able to create a good results, this becomes very inspiring for me.
I graduated from Lillehammer University, Norway in June 2012, where I acquired a Bachelor's degree in Organization and Management. During my undergraduate program, I studied various aspects of management including current managerial patterns and trends, sociology of work, project management, social scientific method, industrial and organizational psychology, human resource management, organizational change, labor law and many others.
I took my fourth semester in New York, where I studied sales management with subjects such as; introduction to the economics and management. I found this very relevant in terms of my education and work experience.
I have always lived by John Dewey’s philosophy “Learning by doing” in the sense that what I have learned during my studies, I have availed myself of the practice in my previous jobs.
In my last year in university I got a chance to work for Adecco as an HR-consultant, where I gained relevant experience that I now wish to expand. My responsibilities were amongst others the recruitment process such as; matching job applicants with suitable job positions with our clients and job interviews. I was also involved in the company’s direct marketing program that targeted potential future clients.
After my BA, I was privileged to work as an intern at The Permanent Mission of Eritrea to the United Nations during the General Assembly. I was assigned three committees. My role was to participate the meetings of the three committees, which I was responsible for. In addition to the committees; I also participated in the Security Council where the highlight was a meeting with Hillary Clinton whose main item of discussion was Middle East crisis.
I also want to mention that November 29th, 2012 was a date that I by far never forget. I had the opportunity to observe Palestine become an official member state of the United Nations.
My experience from Adecco and United Nations has given me skills that I believe will be able to contribute for class discussions at Middlesex University.
After reading the curriculum and the course requirements of the University of Middlesex Master Program in International Human Resource Management, I believe that it matches my research interests and profile perfectly. Thanks to the University website, I gained useful information about the University campus and the student life.
Based on my academic and professional experience I believe I can fit perfectly in terms of achieving ideal academic results. Therefore, I would be honored if you to accept my application for this Master program. In the same time, I am aware of possible challenges and high investments of effort I will have to place in order to complete this course successfully.
Thank you in advance for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Shewit N Y Gebremeskel
