Introduction
The Emperor's Club (2002) is an American film produced and directed by Michael Hoffman. The film presents a story of a renowned teacher who fixes candidates’ results in an academic competition. The intension of fixing the results in the competition was to ensure that, a well-connected student wins the competition in expense of other students. The film presents William Hundert as a prominent educator with a strong reputation due to his past character and experience in the film industry. Although Hundert was successfully in developing an educative film, his work presents some weaknesses (The Emperor's Club 2002).
Important factors in moral development
Personal characteristic is one of the core success factors among professionals. This means individuals have to understand their subconscious mind and understand the world’s beliefs and values to be professionals who have essential moral characters. Initially, Reputation is a key factor in the development of moral character. In Hundert’s film, the act of cheating in academic competition undervalued the teacher’s reputation; thus, affecting his moral development. The act of talking positively to individual traits has encouraging and positive impacts on an individual’s emotions and thinking. Moral and emotional supports are as well some of the key factors that result to moral development especially among educators. Furthermore, researchers highlight that self-esteem is critical in facilitating moral development. Making the right choice especially in complicated and challenging situations plays a vital role in enhancing the development of moral characters. Individuals who adhere to the set rules of the society are effective in their moral development.
Action to take when a close friend cheats in an exam
In the situation where a close friend cheats in an exam, the right thing is to report the case to the relevant authority for an immediate action (Wynne 17). After reporting the case, another essential step includes inform my friend that cheating is not the right strategy in academic success. I will as well inform my friend on some of the detrimental consequences of cheating in exams. I would also enlighten and train him on the most appropriate means of passing in an exam without engaging in unethical activities like cheating in an exam in order to assist my friend to become a reliable and better student or a reputable scholar. I would as well engage my friend to participate in seminars, conferences, and lectures that emphasise on moral ethical standards that facilitates success in any competition.
At his initial stages as an educator, William Hundert had reliable and effective reputation and moral characters. He demonstrated high and effective moral characters that enabled him gain a valuable and encouraging profile. In this context, the Hundert initially had respects from his fellow workmates and students. He also commanded respect from prominent national leaders to extent of being trusted with the role of refereeing the competition. However, Hundert’s moral character was challenged when Sedgewick Bell enrolled in his class. Bell was the son of senior United States of America senator who held conflicting opinions with Hundert principles. With an intension of attracting the attention of Bell’s father, Hundert fixed Bell results in an academic competition. The act of fixing results for Sedgewick Bell undermined his long-time earned moral character and reputation. This unethical practice affected Hundert’s moral character considerably as it indicated lack of integrity. This highlights the significance of observing good business ethics in the corporate world.
