In my opinion Mr. Walt Disney had several inherent characteristics shown in the film that make the way in which he is a leader resemble the Jesus’s one.
First of all, Mr. Disney does not consider himself to be untouchable like many leaders usually do. He understands perfectly the difference between director, in the broad sense of this world, and leader. Director is the one who gives orders and other carry them out. Walt Disney is the primary among all his colleagues who works hard. He does not think himself to be bigger or greater than his colleagues. In fact, a very good example to illustrate this is that everybody in the studio Walt Disney owns and leads call each other by name, and Mr. Disney is not an exception – even his secretary calls him Walt. This makes the perception that he is always there, among his employees, always listening to their opinions and not directing from the above. This is one of the ways Mr. Disney significantly resembles Jesus because the latter never was untouchable. He led a very open and very modest life, he never refused to talk to anybody or to be with anybody. And who, if not Jesus could have had every needed ground to act like is special? But he did not and this was one of the primary things that made him great.
Another example is Mr. Disney’s patience. He was not only very often disagreed with, especially what touches upon Mrs. Travers, but also very often directly insulted by those disagreements. For instance, we can recall several times from the movies when Mrs. Travers called the Mr. Disney’s musicals “stupid cartoon” which, I assume everybody will agree, any other person in the shoes of the director would not have born. But Mr. Disney did not stop his cooperation with the writer, every time trying one another way to find approach to her. And now, let us recall that Jesus acted very similarly. He never argued with anybody and never got mad at insults directed at him. He always accepted them patiently and chose either to tell parables or just talk to the insulter to convince him, but he never went mad and never broke up any relationship just because some person was very difficult. And in fact, this is namely the way, how we managed to engage even more people into his teachings because this was so unusual and new, but very positive in its usualness.
This leads us to the final third thing I would like to mention about Mr. Disney – his persistence. Nothing in the behavior of Mrs. Travers and in the difficulty to finally convince her made him give up on his intention. Instead, he took a new attempt every time until he succeeded. He tried to take a personal approach, something that would go deep into her mind and soul, to make her understand that he does understand her. This resembles very much the way Jesus behaved – he made his conversations with people and his general approach to them very personal and this was among those things that made him great in the eyes of everybody. Also, continuous mistrust, assaults, insults and perfidy never made him eventually give up on his preaching because he was bigger than that.
The other characters share much of the character of Walt. For instance, Ralph the driver is also very patient and keeps positive no matter the insults on the part of Mrs. Travers.
In this movie forgiveness is yet another time shown as a great power of success. If Mr. Disney had not forgiven Mrs. Travers every insult the movie would just not have happened. Also, if Mrs. Travers had not forgiven her past, she would not be able to let the movie happen in the version it actually did, which also means that there would be no movie at all since the writer wanted to see it either her way or not at all. Therefore, forgiveness for one more time is shown and proven to be an engine of progress and success, in far broader sense than only mean and modest definitions of these words make us think.
Finally, vision is perception, in my opinion. This means that you do not only have to see a picture in your head. You have to feel it, to know how every detail works so that you eventually not only believe it but somehow feel that the story emanates from inside of you, that it is so natural as if it could happen to you as well.
